Zone Hitting, Relase point pitching aka last years with the strike zone off -
Re: what pitching/hitting modes do you use?
total control pitching and total control batting. Thought I was going to have to change to classic batting, but fiddled with the sliders and found some that make me a bit better at the hit stick which I was horrible with last year. This year with the chnages to it I was already a bit better, but still needed a bit of help.Comment

Re: what pitching/hitting modes do you use?
I use total control pithing and classic hitting with ZONE.
I tried total control hitting with zone, which I was super excited about the thought of using this year, but I'm just way too uncoordinated to use both sticks at the same time...I tried, but just can't get both of my thumbs to work together. When I move the left stick to move the cursor, I move the right one with it and it's just messy.
I enjoy the mechanic of the swing stick and used it last year, so if I don't like the results with zone/cursor, I may go back.Comment

Re: what pitching/hitting modes do you use?
Total Control pitching (with release timing on, last years addition with no strike zone box) and Total Control hitting (zone/cursor hitting, no batter's eye and no strike zone box).
I will try the classic pitching option on the suggestion of others to see if that helps stop the uber accuracy of the pitchers when I get a chance too.
EDIT***
I use breakpoint not pinpoint.Last edited by catcatch22; 03-09-2009, 03:33 PM.Comment

Did you have any trouble using the hitting system this way at first? I may not have given it a fair chance, but I was just a wreck trying to use both sticks at the same time.Comment

Re: what pitching/hitting modes do you use?
What really helps me is that I have used cursors in baseball games since 1995 with world series baseball 95 up to ESPN 04 and All Star Baseball 05 (also a 2004 game). So I had no issue with the controls, with a little practice to get used to a cursor again.
The only issue I have is the camera. I find default camera is bad for seeing where the pitch is headed. Once I adjusted the camera everything became second nature with some practice. With the right camera it should feel like the hitting in high heat where you just aim the left stick in the direction you think the ball is headed and swing.Comment

Re: what pitching/hitting modes do you use?
Yeah, I've used the analog stick to swing as well for several years now (since MVP NCAA 2006) and have no problem with the mechanic itself.
It's just incorporating it with zone and now trying to simultaneously move the two sticks (the left for the cursor and the right for the swing) has thrown me off. If it matters, I can't play the drums worth a damn because my left hand wants to do whatever my right one is doing....kinda same thing here. If I havea high pitch, I move the left stick (cursor) to the ball and unfortunately my right thumb (swing) goes with it...usually way too soon...or I think too much and swing when the ball is in the catchers mit.Comment

The first 75 I just swung the swing stick (get the timing down), the next 75 I moved the bat inside the ball (after the pitch is thrown) to try to hit it the other way (no success).Comment

Re: what pitching/hitting modes do you use?
haha!! Trev, i'm the same way for the same reasons!!! I use classic batting w/ zone hitting, because i, too, cannot get my thumbs to work together!! I find zone hitting too rewarding to give up on, as well.
I use total control pitching, with release point enabled (breakpoint).
I also tend to pitch from the batters view. Anyone else do this, or is everyone just pitching from behind the pitcher (default). I find that pitching with batters view, the pitches tend to come in at a more realistic speed.
Cat, just curious, what camera angles do you use for batting. I tend to have a hard time tracking the ball, especially against other team's top starters, on the default settings.JUST WIN BABY!!Comment

Re: what pitching/hitting modes do you use?
I had voted for Total control on both, but I have just decided to go with Classic pitching. I like it less than total control from 2K8, but FAR more than the Total Control from 2K9.
Suddenly, I'm walking batters I want to throw strikes to. Pitches low and away sometimes float overthe heat of the plate. And best yet, i seem to have more control with better pitchers, and less control with the back end of my rotation.
Maybe a patch will fix Total Control pitching this year, but I'm not holding my breath.
I may switch to the Zone Hitting at some point. I try it now and then, but I am just not getting a good feel for it yet.
BTW, folks claiming that Total Control batting is just a different way of pushing a button are way off. I have been getting many successful check swings lately. I've had them questioned, and then ruled both ways, that I went around, or that i held up. I also had a check swing result in the ball hitting my bat and rolling down the line slowly.
So I think they got that part of the game pretty darn right. Step influence should have been included, but I probably would have turned it off like I did last year. It's a great idea, but it is hard to feel when you should be stepping the game. There just isn't the kind of feedback available to correct it. Although, if they had batting practice like they have in 2K9, I might have put in the time to learn it, as I did the pitching.Comment

Re: what pitching/hitting modes do you use?
What's the real difference between total control batting and classic this year? In 2k7, the Swing Stick could be used for a contact swing, power swing, and to influence. Last year it was just to influence. And both years your step timing mattered. This year it seems like it's just a matter of using the stick or using the A button. The mechanics and end results seem like they won't be any different. I'm thinking about switching to classic because I (like the other user above) have a hard time moving the sticks independently of each other to infulence or use the cursor.Comment
