Re: what pitching/hitting modes do you use?

I like classic batting in conjunction with zone hitting. Provides much more of a challenge than classic batting alone and I was never fond of the swing-stick. And with the removal (or at least nerfing) of step influence, the SS doesn't seem as logical as it did before.

I'm also using classic pitching, mainly because it's much harder to hit your spots consistently, although I'm sure it will become easier with practice/experience. Right now I'm struggling, although I did do a bit better in my last game. If I didn't have two misplays in the OF (one my fault, the other not so much), I would have held the AI to 3 runs... much better than the 10+ I allowed when I first switched to classic!

I'm using classic batting and total control pitching. I would be using classic pitching as well, but it's just not working for me. Every inside pitch hits the batter and there's just no control there.

How do you check swing with classic controls? I think the check swing using the swing stick works really well. I've had ump forced to rule if I went around, and had the results go each way. I even had a check swing in which I hit the ball, and it became dribbler that the catcher took and threw me out on.

With classic it's just a tap of the swing button. There seems to be no rhyme or reason to whether or not you actually fully check the swing and prevent the bat from crossing the plane, but this year they are pretty easy to attempt.

One thing I liked abot MVP 2005 is that there was definitely a noticeable feel of when you did and did not check the swing-you as the user had complete control. It wasn't ramdon like it feels in 2K9, but this is a minor complaint, if one at all. Maybe randomness is better in this situation.
