How is the franchise mode in 2K9?

the franchise mode is one of the most important aspects when i look into buying a game...i herd they fixed the free agent problem which is key.....ive also herd from someone that a rookie with a 64 rating overall ended up with ridiculous numbers and won mvp...has that happened to you? and basically i just want to know the pros and cons about franchise mode. Thanks.

Well, I'm currently about 12 games into my Mets franchise. Once you get a good set of sliders the game is quite enjoyable. The only downside that comes to mind is that there are no "real" minor leaguers. Every actual minor leaguer (Prospect) has a different name in the game, for example Matt Wieters is Mike Weathers in the game. You can however change the names as I did and enjoy your 'chise.

      It's poor.

No ticket prices, no firing coaches or managers. When someone gets hurt they have that injury forever (glitch). You get a notification after every game that 'Brandon Phillips has injured his wrist for 1 day' for the rest of time.

Most of all I've heard that young power hitters like Jay Bruce and Longoria begin to lose their power skill no matter how many home runs they hit and guys that you draft only develop contact but never power. BROKE.

I'm not going to go off what I "heard", but as far as MY experience here's what I like and don't like:

          Likes:
-Injuries: Bound and plentiful and pitchers now get injured at a realistic rate.

-Progression: From what I saw simming a season mostly all the Phillies progressed nicely, w/ Raul Ibanez taking a step backwards (age).

-MLB.COM: Really does give your franchise a pulse.

          -Records: Finally! Real team records!

-FA Signing: The new way of signing FAs is awesome.

-Menus: Its never been easier to navigate your roster/lineup in a 2K baseball game than now.

          Dislikes:
-No Staff Movement: I though it would be a given since NBA2K9 has a full staff you can hire/fire; oh well maybe next year .

-CPU Trading: Toggling ON/OFF throughout a season is still broken.

-CPU Trading Frequency: Still a little high, but an improvement over past titles.

-CPU Trading Logic: Better than in years past, but still not spot-on; ex. a 1 for 1 of Juan Pierre for Tim Hudson? Even coming of Tommy John surgery Hudson has to be worth more than Juan Pierre right? Besides...ATL has prospect Gregor Blanco in CF.

-Editing Limit: A horrible embargo on franchise.

Just make sure you get really good sliders. I'll admit, the aggressiveness of batters is wearing on me, but I'm still enjoying it.

I will also say that MLB.com adds a nice touch. I also really enjoy the stats. One neat feature (because I like replays) is how you can go through the whole game and pick out replays from the game and save them. It's nice.

I'm not far enough into my season to make a comment on the balance of stats but they look ok. Yankees are already dominating, which makes sense on paper.
Being kind, one to another, never disappoints.

mmmm doenst sound all that bad......can anyone give me any information about the draft? for example are there any superstars right out the draft........maybe with a 80-90 rating?...whats the majority of the rookies ratings?....and is it true that they all swing and pitch the same???....and do their faces and body types at least look different?

Re: How is the franchise mode in 2K9?

mlb2k9 has some weird glitches, but overall the game has improved from last year. I am banking on a patch to fix the edit player issue (you cant change the race, face, ect on your minor L players), 1st baseman off of the bag issue, no spectacular catch in the OF (x button is not working on catching), errors in general. If these issues are fixed i will be pumped!
Franchise mode - i have played 20 games in my franchise. i am really having a blast so far. I simmed to the off season to check it out. here is what i can tell you:
                1. progression - scott rollen got a +3, mainly because he had an all-star type of season. This progression system is a madden gamers dream (lol). you can actually get pumped about a 26-28 yr old player and know he can still develop.
                2. free agency is much improved! older players get released which is what happens a lot in real life. there are also a handfull of younger skilled players as well.
                3. draft - i wish they would have added the scouting system from nba2k. The draft is pretty lame because you cant see their appearance (or edit post draft). the #1 pick overall will be around a 65-70. no 80-90's which is good because its not realistic to draft a bj upton and start him his first year. he has to do at least a year unless you are the Royals.

the one thing missing from the next gen 360 baseball is in depth minor league management. there should be training camps and practice mode from 2knba. It would be nice to develop prospects through camps. i will say it again - edit players

I am 8 games into my franchise and just trying to find the sliders, but I find it very enjoyable and a lot better than years past.

I mostly agree with this. I'm still not sold on progression yet, but we'll see on that (too early for me to tell).

The main thing that hold's it back (IMO) is the editing limitations, as you said. Can't fathom the reasoning behind it. Hoping someone figures a way to unlock it for the PC version.

Also, I did have a freeze once, but no file corruption like what some have reported, so that might be something to watch. Overall, the mode itself isn't bad.

The franchise mode is fine as long as your file doesn't get corrupted. I lost mine after I was 25 games in. Keep a second file!
