Re: Can the next patch realistically save MLB2K9?

Patches aren't meant to save games, they are meant to tweak the game. 2K9 is one huge flaw, that would take a complete overhaul to be saved. I can understand some being optimistic out of being hardcore MLB fans and spending 60 bucks on a bad baseball game that they hope meets their money's worth in the near future, but realistically it's not happening.

2K7 + A Roster Update would be a phenomenal game right now.

Thats my problem. All the 2k mods keep saying, "This is going to be such a great game after the patch." Like you said, patches are meant to fix and adjust things, but there are so many glitches and graphical errors, its hard to imagine that patches are going to fix everything. Those mods also say, all games now get patched. To an extent they do, but usually they are adjustments, games usually dont need 2 patches within the first month to make the game playable.

I am so tired of wasting my time. I stated earlier that this game was a 7.5 well I just spent the better part of an hour playing this game was winning in the 5th inning 4-0 but, having a great game only 1 HR and the rest were earned runs, no bugs and than WHAM the stinking game freezes up on me for the 5th freaking time!! I have only played 5 games in franchise when I have attempted 10 games. That is now 5 hours of my time wasted playing this game. I think I will return to College hoops 2k8 now.
          Gaming hard since 1988

I have won like 25 Super Bowls in Madden so I am kinda a big deal.

And if those mods are playing it up that way, I think they're just false advertising.

All the signs are there. This game has lost a ton of value in only a matter of a week or so. That's not good news. At best, the patch will again tweak some things here and there, but overall you'll still be left with the same half-assed game.

eh, i havent played anything up. I have just said, they are patching theparts that need fixes. If people dont want to play it, quite frankly i dont really care. I am playing it right now as i type. I enjoy it, and if they can fix a few more things with the patch i will enjoy it even more. There are things that really annoy me that needs fixing asap.

I dont think any mods care if you or jim or john doesnt like the game. I think its a step in the right direction as i barely even touched last years game. I didnt care for it much at all.

Re: Can the next patch realistically save MLB2K9?

To get back to an earlier point I made about the community and VC's developer having some meaningful dialogue about which direction this franchise needs to go, I think that we need a reliable OS rep to act as our voice. Someone who has, or can establish, a relationship with one of the lead developers to relay our concerns and implement our most popular wishlist items.

I know that there are other gaming communities who have this type of give and take with lead developers. 2khockey.net has that relationship with the NHL2K series (at least they did once). I honestly feel that OS could invite one of the lead developers to blog on our site and allow us to express ideas and solid feedback about each of their sports games. Perhaps one or two of our most visible posters can have the freedom to IM the developer occassionally or play against them online while chatting about the game. LBzRules had this relationship with the guys over at the NFL2K team. If our reliable OS reps are sincerely excited about the release based on what they're hearing, then we'll feel like we finally helped guide the game towards success.

I don't expect the developer to leak any info about upcoming releases, but I think that staying in touch with the hardcore fans of the game is a great reminder to these deveopers for keeping the game in line with the direction their games needs to be headed in.

It's early enough in the development cycle for MLB2K10 to get this started. Wouldn't you agree?

Baa, I know that you were an advocate of the STEP INFLUENCE slider, so I'll ask you this. Would you be playing MLB2K9 today if it was everything 2K8 was with improved framerate, the new commentary, zone hitting (9 zones, pure right stick aiming in the 9 zones) and no meatballs with toned down home runs?

I certainly would have been happier!

I would have to agree. I think 2k9 took a step back in several areas from 2k8. I really liked the 2k8 pitching system and hitting. All in all, with the right sliders, 2k8 was much easier to make into a more realistic baseball experience. But 2k9 regressed in player models and overall gameplay. (I'm a Padres fan and they made Chris Young look like a mutant version of Rudy Seanez). For the life of me, I honestly don't get the changes to baserunning and the oversimplified pitching system. The only thing that really improved was the play-by-play, but that was just a marginal improvement.

2k sports just needs to go back to the look and feel of 2k8. I would really like to see them get ultra-realistic and create a spring training and September call-up feature that would allow you to play with expanded rosters. I can't think of a more practical way to learn the game (in spring training) and test out the depth of your roster at the same time.

I thought 2k8 came close to the greatness that was the final MVP baseball. But with 2k9, I'm hoping that EA sports can eventually make a comeback in getting into the MLB videogame market. This exclusive licensing contract business sucks.

Re: Can the next patch realistically save MLB2K9?

For this game to reach next-gen standards, it needs a complete overhaul.

I'm almost certain the game engine is broken. VC tried to polish a turd, but the real-time stuff looks absolutely atrocious because of the silly animations and stuff. Good idea, horribly implemented.

The gameplay, in my opinion, took a big step backwards. Turning a double play is a chorr, no matter how easy it should be. Hitting not changed from a season ago, in terms of the easiness of getting hits and home runs.

The defensive gameplay aspect is hit or miss, mostly miss.

Will a patch fix any of this? Don't think so. However, my main gripe is aggressive AI, so it's good to hear they are working on it. I'll be happy if I can work counts and get strikeouts with more frequency.

That all said, I enjoy the game as it is, and it will be getting heavy playing time in my 360 all summer. I don't fuss about all the many glitches this game has. I see them and I ignore them... unless it directly plagues my gameplay experience, which hardly happens.
