Anyone who thinks hitting in this game is too easy should try Zone (Cursor) Hitting

I've seen countless threads about hitting being too easy, not striking out enough, too many homeruns, etc, etc. I've played on Zone (Cursor) Hitting since Day 1 and with the right sliders, hitting feels perfect. No cheap homers, strikeouts are realistic (too abundant on higher pitch speeds), and it feels like you EARNED an extra-base hit when you hit one. No hitting up on the L-stick for flyballs, just good ole' cursor hitting. Not only that, but once you get used to it, the pitch speeds don't like slow anymore either (currently using 65 pitch speed). I have a set of sliders in the slider forum, but I was curious, is anyone besides me actually using Cursor Hitting this year? If not, why not?

I'm not. I like the innovation of the swing stick.

I think that my experience, given my sliders, has been pretty good using the swing stick.

Playing as the Phillies I was shut-out opening day, and since that game had success against not so good pitching. I played 5 games w/ the Phillies, and two of those games didn't see a HR.

I played my 1st game w/ the Royals last night going up against CC, and only managed two XBHs - both doubles; only one of them coming off CC.

There's hope for the swing stick, you just have to find sliders that fit your skill-set.

And to think many people did not want cursor hitting put into the game. I have said it many times and will continue to say cursor hitting is the best and most realistic form of hitting in these games.

No cursor hitting = no purchase.

Ok but this isn't really realistic either.

I mean i understand it adds a new dimension to the game (can you post your sliders I'd be interested in trying them out for several games)

But here is the problem with the cursor hitting. You now use the left direction stick as the guide for the cursor. When you get a low and inside pitch to a right handed hitter; to hit it you are forced to push down. That means a low pitch will be a ground ball 100% of the time. That also means a high pitch has to be a fly ball but its not hit with the same force as before using a cursor. To a degree its broken I feel--when I tried it.

unless I am missing something. If it is low and away and you hit it that way in real more often than not you are not going to get the lift you can with the game on total control.

Now I also was under the understanding that cursor hitting is physics based, so if the cursor is on the high side of the ball, it will have a downward deflection, etc

It depends on where you place the cursor on the ball. If the cursor is slightly underneath the ball...even on a low pitch you will get under it and lift it.

The direction you are pressing on the controller doesn't impact the hit...just the location of the cursor compared to the ball...if that makes sense. In other words, it doesn't matter what direction you are pressing just where the cursor is.

I prefer to start with the cursor at the bottom of the zone, it helps me get under pitches more often, but because the pitchers attack the bottom half of the zone, I have a smaller distance to cover when I move the cursor.

Thats what I thought, I have not tried cursor hitting yet. But that was my understanding of how it worked.

I enjoy it...only wish I was coordinated to use it with the swing stick...If you go to practice, where you get nothing but pitches down the middle, you can move the cursor around slightly in each direction to see it's impact on the direction/trajectory of the ball.

Yea, I am enjoying the swing stick with the slider setup I have now.

I wonder if you can enable to use ONLY cursor hitting in ONLINE leagues???? hummmmmm

I'm loving the cursor hitting. This is what has been missing from games for years. I also wish I was more coordinated to use both sticks, but for now directing with the left stick and pressing the swing button is working well. Perhaps if I need more of a challenge I'll give it a go.

yea as others have said it is realistic, depending on what part of the bat hits the ball, you will see the ball go in proper dirrection, as in it is the most realistic bat to ball physics you have seen in a baseball video game, if you get on top of the ball it's in the ground, underneath it's in the air, and so on and so on. i have to say i haven't seen a game implement this system of hitting this well with next gen. or old. they did very well

I used the 'zone' hitting with classic controls for three innings and I was impressed. I didn't do much at the plate, but the bat-to-ball physics seemed very well done. I could usually tell if I was underneath or on top of a pitch, with the results lining up nicely. I'm going to give it a shot, although if my sources are correct, using classic hitting means that I would have to use classic pitching when playing online...

Cursor hitting in this game is terrific. You really earn your hits when you get them.
Of course, if Dawson gets hot, and
                          Sutcliffe comes through, and....

cursor hitting is the way to go. definitely more challenging. using joe's sliders right now and was doing pretty well with them as of late. tonight though, seems i hit a slump!! went four games of scoring 1 run, and was about to get shut out in the fourth game until i got pissed and switched to total control hitting in the 8th inning, just to see how much easier it is to hit with. well, i scored 4 runs to tie the game, and then Tex hit a two run bomb in the 9th to win it.

didnt feel as good as with the cursor, though. felt like i would make contact no matter what, just as long as my timing was good. with the cursor, you not only have to have timing, but also direction.

Gonna have to adjust joe's sliders though!!!!!

Yeah, I feel like you have to keep pitch speed down a bit if you're going to use cursor hitting. Trying to determine whether the pitch is a ball or strike, aim the cursor, and time the swing is a lot to do.
