Some good news for PC users...

Hey guys. It's nothing huge, but for those of us who prefer a "clean screen" when playing, there is some headway being made over at mvpmods.

Aside from a few stadium retouches, there has been little else. Recently though, there has been a release for Xbox360 buttons and now a release to remove the "LATE SWING/EARLY SWING" display that floats mid-screen after some swings. Also, there was a version released with a smaller ball cursor for pitching.

Credit of course goes to the mod creator (Wicked420 on the site):

I saw a request for this and it was something i would also like, so here it is. This will remove the display that comes up saying you had an early/late swing when batting. I also have another version of it with the smaller pitching cursor (RyanP over at EAMods made the cursor) if anyone wants tha...

I'm sure many have thought to look in on what they're doing, but this is for those who maybe have the PC version and weren't aware that mvpmods had guys attacking this. I'd recommend checking out the various other mods as well(mostly stadiums), as they definitely help the visual appeal of the game.

    Enjoy

Thank you for the update. They have done some great mods in the past. It's good to hear they are working on 2K9.

      And...it starts.

I know there were already a few stadium mods, but I have a feeling this is the first real taste of what modding can do for this game.

I hope so much that we get that AI aggression patch along with the console users...

I agree. When I logged on today and saw that, I said "And now it begins"...lol.

Also, from the responses by Ron over at the 2K board, it appears the patch for PC will be cumulative (both #1 and #2 for the consoles).

That's not confirmed, mind you, but it is potentially good news and means the aggressiveness issue should be addressed as well. Things are beginning to look up, it seems

There is also a mod to remove the ball cursor completely when pitching...I tried it last night and although it doesn't solve the "easy pitching problem", I threw more pitches than I would have otherwise...

I don't believe we can use the legends in Franchise, I wonder if a MOD could tweak it so we would be able to play with legends in franchise?

            That would be cool...

Well, we have our first cyberfaces popping up. Not perfect, but Ryan Howard is looking better:

Should see thing improve as guys get more comfortable with manipulating this stuff.

Also, it seems that someone was able to get into a player file and change their batting stance!

                From eamods.com:

"Not hard coded, I switched JR's stance to Ivan Rodriguez stance"

This should mean that it's not "locked down" and might be able to be opened up in-game (doesn't mean it will be, but the possibility seems to be there).

Worst case, it would appear that at least PC users might be able to edit stances/pitching motions once more stuff is figured out

                Link for those interested:

Re: Some good news for PC users...

I'm not getting too much into it, because I've said it 100 times on this forum.

But I really wonder how many more years it's going to take for console gamers to realize that the PC is where it's at, ESPECIALLY for these sports games, because they can be so easily modded to update everything. You could buy a sports game for one year and it could easily last you 3 because of all the mods/updates that are done to them.

I'll get more out of my 19.99 for MLB2K9 on PC this year than console gamers have gotten out of the $180 they've spent on MLB2K7/8/9 combined.

If having the correct ads is your idea of getting more out of the game, sure. But until these mods can actually fix the gameplay and animations, and get rid of the many bugs and glitches, it's still just the same game. And it's going to play exactly the same way the console version plays.

                          Not necessarily.

The "ball cursor removed" mod affects gameplay. As a previous poster mentioned, it still doesn't quite solve the easy pitching but it does solve the pinpoint pitching and introduces a bit of randomness (and higher pitch counts).

There are other possibilities as well. If an editor comes out, it could allow global changes to ratings that could perhaps enhance gameplay.

The other mods are mostly graphics related but I think that enhances the experience too.

But to me, the best thing is the price. I bought the XBOX360 2k7 and 2k8 and hated them (but wanted my baseball fix). I'm already enjoying 2k9 on the PC more than either of those games combined. Hopefully the patches address the few gameplay issues (1B coming off bag too often and the batting AI) AND address the franchise mode stuff. If that happens in conjunction with good mods, I think this will be a good baseball game.

                            Great news indeed!

I'm not going to start a season or franchise until patch #1 and #2 come out.

But the ability to modify the game for the PC is great!

I haven't played it on 360, and I'm guessing you haven't played it on PC. We need someone with both to weigh in. I'm not sure that some of the glitches aren't specific to consoles.

At any rate, stadiums are the most straightforward mods. No surprise they're first. Modders didn't crack mvp05 within the first 2 weeks. It takes some time. But it's worth it.

And don't knock the baseball mods. The other guy's right. It changes gameplay to change the ball cursor from an oversized softball to a normal-sized baseball - or to remove it completely.
