Is MLB 2k9 more fun?
I don't want to turn this into a show vs mlb 2k9 thread so try not to close this thread that way would be appreciated. If we could somehow have a mature discussion on this it would be cool. The reason I ask this is I picked up a ps3 and mlb the show. It's a sim and does so many things right and is almost a more grownup game that i can sit there and see things play out as they actually would in a real baseball game in so many different scenarios. It's so well done and I love it. But to that respect I keep getting this itch to play mlb 2k9. Maybe i'm a kid at heart I dont know. The patch impressions have been good it sounds like and i've been itching to pick this back up. Where the show is more of a sim, mlb 2k9 may be an arcade title, but is that what makes it fun? The control and fielding and just something about it. The games move faster. There were also little nuances i miss from the collisions at home plate. I also love the walkoff celebrations and commentary and i would see little things each game that i wouldnt see the game before. From different animations to whatever. I still remember a play at homeplate where the runner slid and missed homeplate and dove back before he got tagged. I thought that was such a little thing that was so cool. This game might not be realistic but i was having a blast with this game. TEcmo bowl was an incredibly unrealistic game but it was fun as hell back int he day. I could run circles with bo jackson and piss people off and it was just fun. One thing i couldnt stand though was the lack of pitch counts nad battles at the plate and everyone swinging and hitting on 1 pitch. That made it incredibly boring to me after a while. But it seems like the patch has rectified that somewhat? Just wondering if this game is that much more fun after the patch?Last edited by kGinGreen; 04-06-2009, 06:44 AM.Tags: None -

Re: Is MLB 2k9 more fun?
I have The Show 09 and play on my roomie's PS3 and I also have 2k9 on PC.
I like 2k9 better.
Is 2k9 more arcade than The Show? No, I don't think so at all. It plays like a real baseball game and still allows you the strategy that The Show does. The AI behaves realistically - for instance, I was playing as the Pirates vs the Astros. It was bottom 9, down two and runners on first and second. I don't have any outs, so I decided to sac bunt the runners to second and third - the shortstop quickly covered third as the third baseman came in to pick up the bunt - but the pitcher got to it first and rifled the ball to third to try and get the lead runner - thankfully for me, he just barely slid in under the tag.
It's things like that that make me really like 2k9.
The only difference is, yes, 2k9 does play a little faster. Also, 2k9 doesn't have the depth of options that The Show does. And The Show is a lot less buggy. I guess you could call The Show more technical than 2k9 - but not more realistic or more of a simulation. The Show has much more in the way of stats to keep track of than 2k9.
With 2k9, the beauty lies within the Sliders. If you can find a slider set that you love, you can have some obscenely awesome games. I'd also say that the commentary in 2k9 is better - they just sound more like they're there than Vasgersian and company. However, Vasgersian and company have more dialog options than Thorne and company.
If you could slap a Road to the Show option in 2k10, I'd buy it in a heartbeat as long as they're positively building upon what they did this year.Last edited by CybrSlydr; 04-06-2009, 09:46 AM.Comment

Re: Is MLB 2k9 more fun?
As a owner of both titles on the PS3, imo, no. To me the Show is more of a sim/realistic title and 2K9 has more of an arcade feel. 2K9 has better commentary and that's about it. In every other way I believe The Show has the edge.Comment

Here's a thread pretty similar to this one in The Show forums.

Re: Is MLB 2k9 more fun?
I like The Show more. I dicked around with the sliders in 2K9 PC for like 2 weeks and after tweaking them to the point that games had a realistic amount of hits, runs, and HRs, it still didn't rival the realism of The Show. I just don't understand why the consumer has to F around with sliders so much to get a decent game outta 2K9. I haven't touched the sliders in The Show and I don't feel the need to. It's difficult and realistic on default settings. Anyway, it's just my opinion. I deleted the game from my hard drive and I just play The Show '09 PSP.M!keComment

LOL, well at least you dissed me creatively. Most people that take a shot at me use the most cliche BS you've ever read. Anyway, yea, I guess i was BSin' when I said that. I'm still here because I wanted to like the game, but I never could get to that point and I tried. Believe me, I tried my *** off..M!keComment

Re: Is MLB 2k9 more fun?
the show hands down.i have both 2k9 isn't a bad game it just isn't a good game.the show is very realistic.it has a greater learning curve then 2k9.the show looks better has alot more options such as you can actually sim to the next half inning or any inning and play from there.players look more like themselves and they are actually missing less pics then 2k9.if you like real baseball the fun the drama and a great sim the show all the way.if arcade is your thing and not into visuals 2k9.i hope they get the game right be 2k10.but they have a lonnnnggggg way to go to catch up to the show.by the way this is my first year playing the show.everything i read about it made me go out and get a ps3 also for the bluray and the show.best sports game i have played.Comment

I wouldn't say 2k9 is more fun. It's different and it is fun.
I find both games to be very entertaining for different reasons.Comment
