Stealing bases?

I can't seem to get my players to attempt a stolen base. I get them a nice lead, then mash the same button which is supposed to make them try to steal, but they never go.

What am I doing wrong? I'm playing on the Xbox 360.

You don't press a button to steal -- you release the left trigger.

You know, under Game Modes there are Practice/Tutorials for Hitting, Fielding, Pitching, & Baserunning.

Yeah, didn't bother with them after I tried the one for hitting, because it really didn't help any more than just playing the game.

I just looked at the game controls, and since they aren't clear on the basestealing, I probably should have gone back to those tutorials.

Yeah, to confirm for a lead off, you press and release the L trigger. To steal, you press and hold...you will feel the controller vibrate...continue to hold until you want your runner to take off.
