Post-patch, outfielders still can't catch balls

    Has anyone had this happened?

I've already had two OFs miss flyballs even after downloading the patch. I couldn't get through the game because it was so frustrating.

On a side note, does anyone know how much GameStop is giving for MLB 2k9 or where the best place to return/sell it would be?

Pre-loading your throws will fix this, but since your already leaning towards selling it, why bother. Just return it and be done with it.

I have also had problem catching a few fly balls. I find that miss them whenever I hesitate in my pursuit to them. I make sure that I don't confuse my fielder when going for the ball.

As for trade-in value, I wouldn't expect more than $20 for it. Online stores have already dropped the price of this game. Whenever I get my PS3, I plan on selling this on ebay. I hope to get some sucker to buy this for at least $30.

I don't see it. Once I figured out the "automation" when you get close to the indicator my problems cut down. since the patch, it's much smoother and less sensetive.

It's kind of a feel thing, but if you let of the controls and let the animation take over when you're close, it helps.

Not sure about the preloading throws thing (I think it's likely similar to the "hold quick throw" theory for the 1B issues people had...mostly placebo), as I rarely preload and still have no issues. If it might work though, you should try it...certainly can't hurt.

Oh...and if you're going to sell it/turn it in...sell it online, not to Gamestop. You'll amlost always get more.

Re: Post-patch, outfielders still can't catch balls

I'll have to try out the pre-loaded throw method. It's just frustrating that you need to make a work around for something like this.

I think I am leaning toward selling. I hit 6 straight doubles to the exact same spot in left-center followed by four identical pop ups to shallow center.

It's a shame. I think it has some solid gameplay with the right sliders and difficulty level. I really like the pitching and stolen base systems, but these relatively frequent glitches frustrate me to no end.

          Thanks for all the responses!

I'm seeing a great variety of everything. Great Defenseive plays, a varitey of hits, and no dropped balls in the outfield, and outfielders even diving. I just don't have time to play the game right now. I do preload my throws on outfield hits but it's because in real life I would try to get the throw to the cutoff fast anyways, so it's not a huge work around or anything for me.

I've tried to pre-load throughs for the cut-off man and can only generate high lofting throws that never get to the bag. If I don't pre-load...its fine.

I think this is the key, get in position and let the CPU take it from there. Also, I would try being slightly behind the cirlce instead of directly in the middle of it. These two things seem to help for me.

It is ridiculous that this is even and issue, something that happens to a team maybe once or twice in a 162-game season. It should be freaking automatic and they turn it into an adventure.

the fielding does need work but, w/ practice I am getting better at it.

I dont' know what y'all doing.. I've had no problem with fielding from pre patch to post patch. I'm sitting here trying to figure out what y'all are doing wrong. Get to the circle and stay there.

Maybe because I'm use to playing with the show manuel fielding, and I'm use to stuff like that. I dont' know

I actually saw the CPU miss a fly ball in the outfield today. I was the Mets playing against the Phillies. I hit a fly ball to Victorino and the ball hit his glove and he missed it.

Re: Post-patch, outfielders still can't catch balls

the outfielder's defensive ratings clearly influence how a player reacts to the ball.
I base this off of what is written in the practice mode. It kind of says players with lower defensive ratings are influenced by wind, weather, etc.
I noticed that the 2 times I misplayed balls was during games where the wind was stronger, and when the sun was blaring in the outfield.

                        In addition,
The outfielder that seems to slow down when playing the ball on a line drive or shallow pop up. I think The outfielder slows down if it isnt going to be able to catch the ball,
As in playing the outfield in baseball you would switch your defensive mindset to playing the ball off of the hop. making sure the ball stays in front of you, so you dont allow a double or triple.

I think that is the intentions of the developers when they programmed the outfield.

regardless it doesnt happen as much as before. its part of the game and makes it a bit more challenging.

That may be, but I want to be able to slow it down for me. I don't want the developers to force me into it myself. After all, the challenge is "on" whenever someone hits the ball. The challenge is that the pitcher needed to get the player to either swing and miss or swing and it a ground ball.

The pop fly comment makes sense, but the fact that happens more than it would is alarming. That is not typical of a baseball game for 2 of your three outfielders to completely miss the ball. Especially if they slow to a crawl.

agreed that if that was 2ks intentions they should give the player the option of slowing down. but then you would have people complaining about the ball always gets by them and the AI winds up getting alot of triples or inside the park homers; which was what happened when a ball was misplayed in MVP. At first there was alot of complaints about this.

again, I think 2k was trying to minimize this.

... I wouldn't give 2k that much credit. If they were truly on their game, then a lot of stuff would have been included in this game.
