Re: Post-patch, outfielders still can't catch balls

This issue actually resulted in the end of my time with this game.

I had played multiple exhibition games in anticipation of the first PC patch, and had only seen this issue like twice in all the games I played. So yesterday I finally decided to start a franchise, and the very first franchise game I play, with 2 outs in the inning, I have the OF planted underneath the ball as it's coming down, and it just proceeds to drop right behind him and go to the wall for a triple. Next hitter? 2 run HR.

That was it for me. I uninstalled the game and put it on Craigslist. And don't even respond with "that stuff happens in baseball," because you dang well know what I'm talking about. 1B pull their feet off the bag in baseball too. Doesn't mean you should be afraid of it every single time that event occurs in a major league baseball game.

Out of the Park 10, here I come.

Not sure about the preloading throws thing (I think it's likely similar to the "hold quick throw" theory for the 1B issues people had...mostly placebo), as I rarely preload and still have no issues. If it might work though, you should try it...certainly can't hurt.

Oh...and if you're going to sell it/turn it in...sell it online, not to Gamestop. You'll amlost always get more.
it's not a placebo. Like you said, you don't need it to avoid most problems, but I have literally seen the player correct position once i preload. Try it out.

Re: Post-patch, outfielders still can't catch balls

It's just another example of shoddy 2k design. I waited on the patch before buying this game, and honestly I just wish I would have kept on waiting. These outfield mistakes are ridiculous and completely inexcusable, happening way too often. In fact, in one game it happened to me twice in the same inning -- waiting for a pop up in left, waiting, waiting, and plop, the ball lands right over the head of the LF. And it's not just a player-control issue. I've watched a few AI vs AI games, and I've seen the exact same thing happen to them. All post patch.

And then there's the infield mistakes. LOL, with routine grounders only a foot away from the fielder and not even a hint of an attempt to field the ball. TERRIBLE game design.

Please, Microsoft, we need a good baseball game on the 360. I'd prefer an old generation remake (World Series or All-Star or MVP, for example) as a LIVE Arcade download over this crap. Or start working on a new High Heat game, since you own the license. 2k needs some competition or they're going to continue ruining the MLB license.

The problem I'm having now is outfielders are trapping balls they normally caught.

They'll do their slowdown jog towards the ball and then not make it and trap the ball right after it bounces off the ground. MANY an inning have been extended due to this.

              Quite annoying...

It is the fix. You can't just try moving your guy to the yellow circle, you've got to get him there first, and if you see that he isn't going into the animation where he puts his glove up to catch the ball then you use the LT and sort of lines him up w/ the ball for the catch.

Re: Post-patch, outfielders still can't catch balls

Man, probably 20 games or so with only 1 OF error and last night the wheels fell of. 5 OF errors. One was throwing, so there were four dropped balls-three by my LF and one by my CF. Needless to say I lost 5-1 with 4 unearned runs.

The one by my CF I'll say was legit. He was on the run, stuck out his glove and went into a catch motion and just dropped it. The three to my LF. On all three he didn't even move his glove.

I'll have to give the L trigger a shot. At first I didn't know what everyone was talking about with all these errors, but last night made me a believer.

Regarding the L Trigger, what does that have to do with pre-loading a throw? Is that what the button is used for on defense? I'm guessing you have to press and hold to a corresponding base with the R-stick while doing this, or no?

A manual would have been nice for this game...just saying...

Had the game since release date and still have not seen CPU outfielders make one catch at the wall either jumping or robbing a home run. Every time they attempt it, either they miss it completely or it hits them in the head or something. That is horrible. I almost enjoyed 2K8 more, because at least they caught the balls at the wall, excessive or not.

Because you've got to time it...which can be challegning, but I think a lot of people see the icon coming up to press "X" and start pressing way before the ball is even about to land/impact. You've still got to watch for it coming down, and time your press of "X".

I know how to catch balls at the wall myself. My post was referring to CPU outfielders who can't catch the balls I hit to the wall. I am getting a little tired of seeing the AI outfielders run into the wall and missing the ball completely. Broken animations suck out there. I just wish they could patch that or something. 2k8 was excellent at replicating nice catches at the wall and the CPU robbing me of homeruns.

Honestly the only problem I've had is that if I have a fast outfielder I sometimes run past the circle and have to double back resulting in an error. That hardly ever happens, and I don't really have a problem with it. I've also seen the cpu miss a couple of balls like described, but i think it is more environmental. If there are two outs in the bottom of the ninth with runners in scoring position and the sun blaring an outfielder is bound to make a mistake eventually. Its never been an issue for me.
