Can someone answer a few questions...

After seeing folks having fun with this game post patch #2, I was considering giving it a purchase for a change of pace. I've been playing The Show the last few years and just wanted something different. I was hoping someone might take the time to answer a few quick questions for me:

Do players have their career stats in the game and do the announcers make any comments about milestones that happen during franchise?

As I'm a Cubs fan, does their schedule in franchise include day games for the majority of their home games? (not so in The Show).

How often are these "living rosters" updated?

Lastly, I own a PS3...how are the graphics as I've heard some say they're not so good and others say they're fine?

I appreciate any help as I may pick this game up today if the respones are pretty positive!

first of all, yes you do see their career stats on the big screens in the stadiums. you can also see their season stats during their first at bat, but only after you complete a few games in your franchise.

i dont think the announcers make comments about milestones, but im not sure.

the cubs schedule was supposed to be fixed, but i havent checked.

the living rosters get updated about every 3 days, but there hasnt been one in like 3 weeks since they are trying to get opening day rosters in order.

ps3 graphics=xbox 360 graphics. actually, x box might be better. either way its close.

lastly, not to be a troll or anything, but if you have the ps3 you might want to check out the show first. if you like realism, go with the show. 2k9 is more arcady, but online is superior.

Thanks, panthers_freak! Everything sounds good. I already have The Show and will probably use it for my diehard franchise. However, I just wanted to give 2K9 a chance and play something a bit different. I might play it mostly on-line if it is superior there.

        1) The player's career stats are viewable on the big scantron screen whenever the players are up to bat. I think the commentators mention milestones that they have had in their career as well as their stats from 2008 season. If a player beats a MLB record in the game, they will mention it. The presentation is pretty darn cool in this game. It rarely gets repetitive and the miscues are very few.

        2) Being that I am Cards fan ( ), I don't know this for sure. But I do think I have read on some of these threads that many of the Cub's home games are at night time. Since I am waiting on the new rosters, I haven't been in franchise yet. Maybe you will get a choice in franchise?

        3) During Spring Training, living rosters were updated a lot I thought. Well, at least a lot more than they updated the rosters last year during the regular season. From what I understand, they may be updated once a week. Unfortunately, they don't always have all of the transactions. Hopefully, with the new rosters coming soon, we should be able to fill any gaps that they miss.

        4) I own a 360 so I can't comment on the differences between the two. But I will say this, I think The Show has far superior graphics than 2k9. Many of the players that I have seen in that game (pics from The Show forum), are very close to their original selves. No offense to some people here, but the player faces in 2k9 look like burn victims. They have some signature moves and player tendencies, but not as much as The Show. The stadiums are pretty good. I think the fans in The Show are more believable than the ones in 2k9. Here is a link from pastapadre with some comparison shots. Keep in mind that padre is big time Sony fan. So he will show you what he wants you to see.

Now that everyone knows how MLB 2K9 and MLB 09 The Show turned out I thought it would be fun to compare some of the player faces from the games. Doing so always results in an interesting post-release discussion. I randomly selected 10 well known players and in comparable situations. All images were taken through

What I would do is rent the game. You don't want to spend $40 on a game that fails to deliver on what you are looking for.

Got ya...I did play a game of the demo, but that was over a month ago and I've since deleted it from my PS3. I didn't have the HDTV I have now at the time, so I don't know how the game will look graphics-wise on it (I've read about lots of jaggies?). I know from what I've seen, The Show is superior in many ways, but I'm just looking for something else to change things up. I'm a huge baseball fan, so I think I'll enjoy aspects of both games this summer!

good point, if you can afford both, you should buy both. each has pros and cons.

Well, I only buy about 2-3 games a year as I'm strictly a baseball/football gamer. 2K9 doesn't have the custom music for batter walk-ups does it? I was about to search the forum.
