    Re: stealing

One of the things I noticed about stealing is the way the baserunner is animated during his race to 2nd. Jose Reyes, for example will get that good jump and you'll see his head slightly down and he's jetting, then about 3 steps later, he looks as though he slows down a touch because he's running more upright with his head up.

I've seen this animation on ALL of the attempted base stealers (human controlled and CPU runners). Also the animation around the bag while the tag is being made. I've seen my guy get thrown out by throws that are above the 2nd Baseman's head, yet he's able to come down with the tag just before my baserunner touches the bag. However, if the baserunner had been running at full speed (animations), he would clearly be safe!

      Re: stealing

It makes me angry that it's practically impossible to steal bases in a baseball game with base stealers.

I play with the Rangers and it'd be real nice, even realistic, if I could steal a couple with Kinsler and Andrus.

        Re: stealing

It is easy to steal for me because I use the cursor hitting which requires a slow pitch speed. It helps a lot and makes the game a whole lot more realistic.

If people start to think that the AI is getting steal after steal on you, then lower the AI steal success. This helps a lot believe it or not.

          Re: stealing

I lowered cpu catcher throw strength and accuracy to 60. I finally stole a base. but the throw was on time but off target. I only did this for one catcher and will see what happens with my next series.

            Re: stealing

I don't get this. I'm playing on all-star with some changed settings nothing to do with base stealing.

Why are people having such a hard time stealing? I even have the PC version, and without the vibration, is supposedly that much more impossible to steal.

            How I steal:

            1) two taps and then hold. This gives him a 3 step lead, and will go when you release the trigger.

            2) Wait for a pitch that's most likely going to be off-speed. Then right when he starts the animation to throw, take off.

            3) Use the left stick and slide away from the tag. If the guy is on the right of the bag--go left.

I've stolen them with McLouth, Hinske, Morgan, and a few others when I played with teams not the Pirates. I'm not 100% with stealing here, but I do it more often than not.

              Re: stealing

I went from hating base stealing and writing it off as being broken to loving it because of how realistic it is. Stealing is not impossible, its all about getting a good jump on the pitcher. If you dont get a good jump you are not swiping the bag. Anybody who played organized baseball will attest to that.

I was not stealing any bags for a few games in a row because my jumps where too late. Then i started to concentrate on getting good jumps and timing pitchers breaks and i started to steal bags.

Study the pitchers, try your best to time your jump and you should be stealing them.

Put the base running speed at 100 also. There is only a minimal difference between the speed being at 65 and 100.

My question would be for the guys who are stealking ok, what is your pitch speed at?

Best advice in here. Before I read that post I couldn't steal one bag, but now I can do it pretty well when I need to. At least average to an actual baseball game.

Okay, so i need a little clarity on the sliding part of this message, you say if the SS/2B is on the right side or left side of the bag...does that mean in front or behind the bag, or literally the right side (toward outfield) or left (blocking basepath)?

So normally when I release the trigger, I push up on the left stick, so if I angle up right or up left it will adjust accordingly?

I do all of the above and can't steal even though it appears I'm there in plenty of time.

I think a lot has to do with the pitch speed slider and once you get it up to 75 and higher, steals are only successful if the catcher makes a bad throw.

the only way is to lower all cpu catchers throw and strength. and even that does not help. if lowering strength does not seem to have too much an impact. but lowering accuracy does work.

I also read that you can use batter's eye/strike zone and when the display goes away then run. it gives you a head start rather than studying the pitcher. and i doubt this even works on the higher levels. if you set speed to 100 then every hit to the gap is a triple.
