Is the Game Fun
I have MLB the Show and the graphics are Great and I had an incredible sim Engine. But I've had the game of over a month now and I can't get into it. It's too hard the Release point pitching difficult and the hitting forget it. I just want a game I can have fun with The Show is not. It. If MLB 2K9 if fun I'd rather have it. I'm playing the show on default level so I'm not even playing at the hardest level. I just want to know what the fun factor is with MLB 2K9.Tags: None -
Re: Is the Game Fun
It varies from game to game and depending on what you're looking for. It depends on your tolerance level of the various gameplay glitches and weaknesses.
The pitching (IMO) is the best part of the game...at least from a control standpoint. (The AI batting leaves a bit to be desired though). It's simple and immersive.
The hitting bores me, personally, and if you are worried about difficulty you'll want to probably pass on the cursor (which, IMO, takes the best aspect of the hitting in 2K away from you).
Fielding has it's moments but it's where the bulk of your gameplay frustrations rest.
It just depends on how much pure baseball you're wanting vs pure gaming (hope that makes sense...lol). I'm actually the opposite of you, in that I can't get deep into this game but am having a blast with the other. The pacing is faster in 2K9 for sure and it feels more like a game in that regard, so it might be up your ally in that respect.
I'd say rent it, or if you have a PC that can run it, go with that version (the mods will help clean up some of the goofy visual things and add a bit more superficial depth as well). It's certainly better than the reviews had it at release now that it's been patched up a couple times. Plenty of people are finding it enjoyable, so it might just appeal to you as well. -

^Sox summed it up pretty good. I too am rolling with The Show but I still pop in 2K9 at least once a week. It does some things better than the show and it is fun if you settle on the fact that its a game and overlook some of the glitches. Plus, I find that the presentation and commentary alone draw me back to play more. I think it has a very life like TV feeling and hopefully they improve it along with the fielding issues next year.Comment

Re: Is the Game Fun
Unfortunately, I'm at a point where I agree. Hopefully I get over it somehow, but ... it's not looking good. I've only played like five or six games the past couple of weeks. Before I was playing several games a day. Hard to see myself doing that anymore.
It also really bothers me - probably more than it should - that the progressive lighting is so bad. 1PM starts with a black sky if they go 10, and 7PM games that start with a black sky - come on.Last edited by Village Idiot; 04-23-2009, 03:52 AM.I am become death

Re: Is the Game Fun
Picked this up over the weekend and it's a great game. I have the Show on PSP and hitting is definitely more rewarding on 2k9 at least with zone hitting turned on. The ball flies off the bat accurately too. As for the fielding gripes that people have I only have seen one issue where the pitcher under-handed the ball to 1st base and the guy wasn't there. Obviously a programming issue, but the runner would have been safe either way. Outside of that one little thing, I've adjusted a few sliders here and there and it plays a great game of baseball. I'm very happy with the purchase! Pitching is more enjoyable in 2k9 as well. The pitch meter in The Show is pretty easy and kind of boring, IMO.Comment

Re: Is the Game Fun
The hitting in 2k9 is one thing that they really did well. The left and right stick is a good feature. Only gripe is that its not responsive at times. sometimes Ill swing and it will be a check swing or not a swing at all. someone pointed out the work around, so its not that much of an issue at all.
Pitching-is a mixed bag. I prefer MLB the SHOW, because location, release etc is based more off of a pitchers movement. 2k has the proper feature in place, they just need to tie it into the pitchers movement, also they also need a better tutorial on pitching. casue Im not sure of I fully understand the mechanics.Comment
