Re: GETTING FREE AGENCY TO WORK

the only problem i see with this is that the site you have posted shows a players 2009 salary. in the game you are allowed to enter the number of years and their yearly salary. the problem with this is that their 2009 salary might not be the same as the amount that they earn over each year of their contract so you might be entering a number way too high or way too low. for example say manny was signed this past offseason to a 2-year deal in which he earns a total of 5 million over those 2 years. he may earn 3 million the first year and 2 million the second year to equal that 5 million. since he earns 3 million in 2009 (in the example of course) the website will say his salary for 2009 is 3 million. if you enter his contract in the game as 2 years for 3 million that of course equals 6 million which is one million over what he earns in the real life example. so instead of entering the contract as 2 years for 3 million you should enter it as 2 years for 2.5 million which would equal the 5 million he was scheduled to earn over the 2 years

i know thats kinda complicated and i hope it helps

^ Yea...I'm fully aware of this, and this is the way editing a contract was done in NBA2K games.

I like it better in the MLB version because it's less detailed...reason being I don't want to have to enter in lines upon lines of salaries. I'd rather just play the game, and not waste my time...maybe that's just the young father in me who's time on the 360 is precious.

Bottom line is...I just need a salary figure more along the lines of a REAL player's salary. The salaries in the game are WAAAAAY understated, and so then it still leaves a huge budget available...thus allowing a team to re-sign EVERY FA.

...and that's ok...it's better than them not being over the limit.

Most young players contracts aren't front loaded anyways. It's only the vets which would likely see that.

As mentioned in the above link I finished up this massive edit.

When I simmed to July 28th as I mention in the link above, I got an offer from the CPU for my Royals; however didn't accept it because I would've ripped them off but it was refreshing to see.

When the notification popped up the Angels, who are like $10mil+ in the hole, had offered me Vlad Guerrero and Torii Hunter for David DeJesus and Joakim Soria.

Now that would've instantly bolstered my offense, but since the Angels are in contention (leading the AL West) I didn't pull the trigger.

This shows that once you edit teams the AI is concerned w/ cutting payroll. The trade would've put KC $9mil in the red and put LAA a $6mil to the good.

I think I'm going to start a chise and do this (but) only for multi-year contracts. So that I can feel it for year one. I'll leave the would-be FA's alone and see how that works.

I'm using the USAToday website though.

Re: GETTING FREE AGENCY TO WORK

The problem outlined in post 1 of this thread is again affecting Franchise Mode's Free Agency Signing Period.

Here's a post I made from another thread that proves the issue is still there:

They'll likely have to send Scott Shields, Joe Saunders, Jason Bulger, Matsui, and Reggie Willits to free agency since they'll likely only have enough to re-sign Jered Weaver, Kendry Morales, Napoli, Kendrick, and few other key-position players.

If you all want free agency to work as should than getting these contracts in line is a MUST. Then there's more work to be done yr to yr to edit the contracts of the newly signed FAs.
This is the site I'm using (thanks be to Coug). I've created an all-30 controlled franchise, and begun editing contracts having completed LAA already. Once I complete the contracts I'll complete the 40-man roster, then skim through free agency to put players in there on their correct 2010 team, and last I'll try my best to get the top100 prospects correct.

If anyone knows how I can upload my franchise file for everyone's use let me know.

Re: GETTING FREE AGENCY TO WORK

This is so very highly dissapointing. I was gonna buy this game today and I had so much hopes for the franchise mode but this seems like a game killer for me. I honestly don't have much time to edit all the players contracts, seeing as how I work every single day and have limited time on the box.

Would any of you recommend controlling all 30 teams and just controlling the player contracts aspect of the off-season for all the teams while controlling everything else just for your team?

So this is a problem again? Ugh.

If I were to edit these contracts, can I do it before I start my franchise, i.e. in the Edit Roster control? Or do I need to do it in a Franchise?

Also, can I just edit the contracts in the 1st year, or is it something I need to do each and every year??

Sounds like another case of a videogame improving on reality to me. I detest free agency and long for the days of old (this coming from a pro-labor attorney, of all things). I don't see the thrill in having the bottom portion of the league serve as a training ground for the top part of the league. I am all for the Pirates, Royals, Twins, etc being able to keep all their free agents. Build through drafting and trading, and you don't need free agency. See how the Yankees like it now!

I think that is what I am going to do. Kinda like how I do it on NBA 2k10.

According to post #38 in this thread, yes, it's a problem again.

Do I need to control all 30 teams in order to fix this? I have no desire to do this.

Hypothetically I guess if you control all-30 you can decide who you'll allow to go into free agency w/o having to make a massive edit. You'd still have a whopping budget, and the contracts would be incorrect but you could just let some players contracts purposely expire (even though you do have the funds to re-sign them).

I on the other hand would like to have my budget be reflected accurately, and limit myself to what I can do because my budget may be taxed.

It sounds like the 1st option would be more for you if you don't want to do the editing; and I don't blame you...it's a chore...esp now since everytime you open up a player to edit there's a loading screen now.

No. Do not do it this way if you choose to start on your own because another user did this last year, and doing it outside of franchise mode made the CPU increase the budget once you used that roster in your franchise. Thus negating the editing done...and I just realized I edited Strasburg and Chapman outside of franchise mode so their contracts likely increased their teams budgets by $15 and $30 mill respectively...damn.

It's something I decided I needed to do every year. Reason being: Because the FA's you will sign/re-sign will demand less money than what the edited value of their previous contract was. So if you have a guy entering his prime, but say had a high contract amount due to winning a big arbitration settlement he'd ask for less dollars since he was originally 'programmed' at a lower amount. Make sense?

So I kept a list of all FAs 70 and above who entered free agency, and who I signed to a team. Then after signing them to their demanded contract I edited their new one. I'd advise not to sign them to a high contract, but rather edit them to one since you could run into issues of being able to fill positions.
