Re: GETTING FREE AGENCY TO WORK
Actually, most of the time the salaries are never publicized by the MLBPA. The terms get out by "sources" but I don't think that they are officially announced.Comment

Re: GETTING FREE AGENCY TO WORK
Would all of this go away if they let us edit team budgets? It seems like that would be the easiest fix. Then we could just make an assumption that everyones current payroll was at X% of their Budget.
Here are the top 10 payrolls from last year:
<TABLE cellSpacing=1 cellPadding=2 width="100%" border=0><TBODY><TR class=bg2 vAlign=center align=right height=17><TD align=left>1.</TD><TD align=left>New York Yankees</TD><TD align=right>$201,449,289</TD><TD align=right></TD></TR><TR class=bg2 vAlign=center align=right height=17><TD align=left>2.</TD><TD align=left>New York Mets </TD><TD align=right>$135,773,988</TD><TD align=right></TD></TR><TR class=bg2 vAlign=center align=right height=17><TD align=left>3.</TD><TD align=left>Chicago Cubs</TD><TD align=right>$135,050,000</TD><TD align=right></TD></TR><TR class=bg2 vAlign=center align=right height=17><TD align=left>4.</TD><TD align=left>Boston Red Sox</TD><TD align=right>$122,696,000</TD><TD align=right></TD></TR><TR class=bg2 vAlign=center align=right height=17><TD align=left>5.</TD><TD align=left>Detroit Tigers</TD><TD align=right>$115,085,145</TD><TD align=right></TD></TR><TR class=bg2 vAlign=center align=right height=17><TD align=left>6.</TD><TD align=left>Los Angeles Angels</TD><TD align=right>$113,709,000</TD><TD align=right></TD></TR><TR class=bg2 vAlign=center align=right height=17><TD align=left>7.</TD><TD align=left>Philadelphia Phillies</TD><TD align=right>$113,004,048</TD><TD align=right></TD></TR><TR class=bg2 vAlign=center align=right height=17><TD align=left>8.</TD><TD align=left>Houston Astros </TD><TD align=right>$102,996,415</TD><TD align=right></TD></TR><TR class=bg2 vAlign=center align=right height=17><TD align=left>9.</TD><TD align=left>Los Angeles Dodgers</TD><TD align=right>$100,458,101</TD><TD align=right></TD></TR><TR class=bg2 vAlign=center align=right height=17><TD align=left>10.</TD><TD align=left>Seattle Mariners</TD><TD align=right>$98,904,167</TD><TD align=right></TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>
Lets assume that these are the same for 2010.
If the Yankees in real life have a $201M, but in the game have a $140M payroll and a $220M budget, then it's obvious that they have room to keep every player they want. However, if we were able to edit their budge to $155M or whatever number that is, then it may mean that don't keep 1 or 2 of those guys every year....and the same would be said for most of the other teams who were close to their budget.
The one thing something like this would do is force us to re-scale salaries.
A-Rods real $27M is now only $19M or something.
And when you see a solid player like Abreau signing for $5M, in reality it's equal to a $7M.
I'm just thinking for patching pursposes, this might be the easiest route to go. Regardless, I hope they are aware of this problem.Originally posted by Edmund BurkeAll that is needed for the triumph of evil, is for good men to do nothing.Comment

And I'm fine with them not being able to use actual salaries, I just wish they kept everything to a scale (or close to it) that would keep this part of the game semi-realistic.Comment

Re: GETTING FREE AGENCY TO WORK
You may be right, and I'm sure there are terms written to prevent them from being in the game, but it seems silly when anyone can go to espn or cbssportsline and get everyones salary.

Re: GETTING FREE AGENCY TO WORK
But it screamed just as loud last year, and not only did they NOT fix it with a patch, they didn't fix it in this year's game either. So either 1) 2K doesn't know about this, 2) the problem simply can't be fixed, or 3) 2K knows about it but doesn't care about fixing it. The first two options seem unlikely to me.
It really is a shame that this issue came back, because it really does ruin franchise.Comment

Re: GETTING FREE AGENCY TO WORK
What gets me is that they work on this all year, probably day in & day out & dont catch it. But 1-2 days into release the consumer finds all kinds of glitches & mishaps... Just weird to me. But its like someone said, they probably dont care & just want to meet the deadline & put out what they have."In a year that has been so improbable, the impossible has happened." - Vin Scully

Re: GETTING FREE AGENCY TO WORK
Well I posted this in Ronnie's patch over at the 2K boards...I suggest everyone else go over and do the same. If they hear it once or twice, they may pass it up. If they hear it 9 or 10 times, they may pay attention...can't hurt.Comment

Re: GETTING FREE AGENCY TO WORK
Been editing contracts for the last 3 hours. Did 20 teams in 3 hours...
I edited only MLB-level players. Using the site that Coug gave me (Cot's Baseball Contracts), if a player had any type of option, I added it into the contract. For some guys, like Carlos Silva, who earned $11.5/yr in '10 and in '11, but had a buyout of a few million in the final contract year, I gave the team the buyout.
For higher rated players who had a couple club options at the end of their contract I gave them the club options; since it adds up to less editing in the long run.
Some results from editing contracts...these figures are pre-edit and post-edit "funds available" - viewable from the "Team Needs" menu.
Philly pre-edit budget avl funds=$25.04M
Philly post-edits budget avl funds=$340K
NYM pre-edit budget avl funds=$20.10M
NYM post-edits budget avl funds=$6.7M
CHC pre-edit budget avl funds=$24.53M
CHC post-edits budget avl funds=$3.08M
STL pre-edit budget avl funds=$13.28M
STL post-edits budget avl funds=$276K
TOR pre-edit budget avl funds=$16.47M
TOR post-edits budget avl funds=$3.40M
So as you can see there's quite a difference in the avl of funds after editing contracts to their correct figure.Originally posted by Edmund BurkeAll that is needed for the triumph of evil, is for good men to do nothing.Comment
