    WSB: Custom Seasons

I really enjoy the retro unis and stadiums in WSB2k3, and I hope they add even more next year.

Another thing that would great would be the ability to customize league size in franchise mode and edit team names. So for example, I could set up each league with 8 teams. Then rename a few teams to "Brooklyn", the "Senators", the "Browns" etc, edit a bunch of players and play out a season from the fifties. Seems to me that the stadiums and unis are the hard part that Sega has already done, simply adding a few editing abilities would really open the door to play ball in a different era. Some purists might simply be content to go back to the days before wild card play.

If Sega created 2 or 3 generic minor league parks, then someone could even set up a minor league season. That someone wouldn't be me, but there are probably a few minor league fans that might get into that.

I was scrolling posts from the past, and this one by Cardot got my attention!

Some ideas are timeless! I especially like "the ability to customize league size in franchise mode and edit team names".

I've always been intrigued with the different eras in baseball history...
This history is jammed-packed with legendary players and teams..

Although "The Show", MVP 05' and ASB have had some good offerings that lean in this direction, no modern video baseball game has put forth much interest in the classics in general...

Like that famous great statesman once said:
"Brinkman Tear Down This Wall" If you would just tear down the "Editing Wall" it would be a good start, Give us total edit!

Maybe a Classic Mode is an idea that will eventually be implemented, I sure hope so...

    Look what 2K offers today:

A large but uncompleted list of first and last names that are announced...

Some retro uniforms, more are needed...

Legends, but they are hiding again...

    If 2K only offered:

"The ability to customize league size" in Season and Franchise...

The ability to rename teams and have those names announced...

Take 2Ks legends out of mothballs ( exhibition mode ) and put them in the game ( Season & Franchise )...

    "Classic Ballparks...

Total Edit on all players, any time in the season...

ASB had it right, in edit & create-a-player mode you could scroll through all the players and pick any face you want...

Of course keep working on better game play, but you might want to consider some of these ideas...

Holy cow, you must have really been digging to find that post...I don't even remember writing it LOL.

But yeah, I always struggle with some video game design decisions. They do all this work to create old stadiums and uniforms and cool features, but then they don't go that extra mile to really make it usable. ASB had the best stadiums in the business, and the retro parks really had an authentic feel to them......But if I recall correctly, the player editor was very difficult to use. You could play with the Dodgers in their old unis in Ebbetts field, but you would constantly see them called Los Angeles...which would tend to kill the nostalgia for me.

I've always said it costs them more dev dollars and time to figure out how to "hide" functionality or make you jump through hoops to access it and use it than it does to just include it in the game.

It's amazing really. It's sort of a control thing I think. It's like they feel threatened if they just designed an editor that woul allow us to edit names, etc. for current and oldtime teams. They will give you just a piece of the functionality because after all, they know best...right? They won't let you accomplish simplistic tasks easily...nope...they will only let you edit certain parts of the player. Incredible. And forget renaming functionality! How dare we?

And this is not specifically directed at 2K games...it's all the sport game manufacturers.

I agree. But as much as I like 2K, they are notorious for this. I noticed it in my first ever 2K game...NFL2K1. They had created retro unis for all the teams (which was not standard in those days). But you could only use them in exibition mode....you couldn't use it in season mode which got 98% of my gaming. And how many 2K games have prevented you from changing the CPU's jersey???

Another big one I remember was the 25th anniversary mode in NFL2K5 (one of my favorite games ever). It was a cool mode where you replayed classic moments of NFL history. But you couldn't change the names/numbers of the players. And often the weather wasn't right....like the Buffalo's comeback against Houston should have been a rainy dreary January day instead of a sunny looking September day. Or replay one of the superbowls in the Superdome, but instead of Superbowl Decor on the field, you are playing on the Saints logo. They are little touches that for me pretty much spoiled the whole mode.

I also think with the advent of online gaming, they are trying to figure out ways to squash people who might develop a team that could dominate, etc. They are trying to keep a level playing ground for the sake of online rankings, as opposed to opening it up for us to fully edit. I do think the online gaming rankings and scores have something to do with this decision as well.
