Going to get this game soon. Please answer these questions.

I'm coming home from deployment and I'm looking forward to picking up 2K9. I have the Show for the PSP, but to be honest, I really don't like the game. The rosters and subsequent online updates are terribly inaccurate when it comes to ratings and on the PSP there aren't really any community rosters to download. Also, the hitting is just ridiculously easy on Hall of Fame and too hard on Legend. It's like the difference between playing Madden on Rookie vs All Madden. Since I'm not a slider person, I can't stand that there isn't a level where you can put up normal batting stats.

So these are my main questions about 2K9 before I pick it up for the 360:

    1. How are the rosters? Does 2K9 still regularly update them? Are the ratings ok? I play with the Giants, and they have several contributing younger players and most of their vets aren't really producing that well at the plate. In the Show Rich Aurrillia and Edgar Renteria are better players than Pablo Sandoval, who's the best 3B in the NL.

    2. How is the hitting? Is there a default level where batting stats are anywhere close to accurate. I'm mostly concerned about hit totals and HRs. I don't get really excited about walk totals, which I know was a big issue with hitting stats in 2k8.

Sorry, I can't answer much for you. But rosters are updated frequently, and changed are made to stances and such. Not much of a ratings guy, so really can't answer that..

Sandoval is the best non pitcher on SF
Hitting stats are usually fine if you get the right sliders. Without the right sliders it is very hard to hit HRs.
Who cares whos the best 3B in the NL.....

As for the ratings, I think they are hit and miss (but that's my take on every game ever made...lol). Ratings are so subjective, that it's tough to answer that. I'm sure there are those who feel the ratings are spot in in both.

As for the updates, they've been fairly regular. They have, in the past, snuck a few minor tweaks through the updates as well (schedule fix, shoe color, etc). I've spent more of my time on the PC version (no updates), but I believe they've stayed on them for the consoles.

There are some sliders out there that should help you get decent enough hit totals. It still seems HR's are a bit more feast or famine, but you may find a balance you like within that. If you don't care about walks, you should definitely be able to find a balance you can appreciate.

An additional recommendation on the hitting: If you can get past a few quirky physics moments (and there aren't many in this case) and a HORRIBLE and intrusive indicator/display overlay, take the time to familiarize yourself with the cursor hitting. It's done relatively well and is MUCH better than the default swing stick system, IMO.

Why hold back? Tell it like it REALLY is! The zone hitting in 2K9 is the one reason I'm even interested in 2K10. Physics-wise, it's the best zone hitting system ever. If they can clean up the fugly cursor display, I'd probably buy the game just to fiddle around in batting practice mode all day, it's that good.

Thanks for the comments. Since I just hate messing with sliders, I'm thinking I may have to pass on this game after everything I've read on the forums here. Hopefully 2K10 will straighten some things out. I am glad they finally added a good cursor hitting though, I've always been a fan of cursor hitting rather than the MVP style of timed hitting or the swing stick.

Thank you for your service first off.

Secondly, give this game a rent to see, you may like it. I really can't remember playing a baseball game as little as I have this year!

It maybe that the Indians suck and I cannot get into baseball this year but for some reason, this game cannot hold my attention.

I would still at least rent it because you never know, it seems as though it is hit or miss for most folks.

I would not avoid the game because of impressions here but it is worth a rent to decide.

Yeah, I may just do that. Or I may just buy it still. I don't know. I keep changing my mind.

To be honest, the Show on the PSP just doesn't sit right with me. The ratings are flat out terrible. I play on Legend, and I do get decent results, although it seems like the computer just cheats at times. I really would like to play a baseball game where my Giants had at least somewhat accurate ratings for players. I was hoping living rosters would give me that. It may be worth a look still.
