STEALING HELP!!
I have had this game for a couple of weeks now and i am currently 0 for about 20 in steals lol. I was wondering if someone could provide me with tips and sliders they use to steal bases. ThanksTags: None -
Re: STEALING HELP!!
it comes down to ratings, selecting the right count to run on, and getting good leads.
first off, stealing in the REAL game of baseball isn't that easy...so it shouldn't be on a video game. it's funny, but in our minds we want to jack home runs and steal bases every time we try...and if we did we'd eventually find the game to be boring. but when we don't we get frustrated. ah, the paradox of our minds...LOL!
but just like those first 3 things i mentioned are true in real baseball, they are true in the video game as well. use your left trigger to get a lead (tap it down and let go at least twice)...then HOLD it down once you get your good lead. the key is LETTING GO at the right time, watching the pitcher's release and motion.
just keep practicing at it...eventually you'll get it down.STEELERS INDIANS CELTICS

Lead off twice, then hold down the L trigger (360 at least). As soon as the pitcher starts his wind-up let go of the trigger.
It's really hard to get the timing down. It helps if the pitcher doesn't throw very fast and the catcher isn't very good. I also haven't been able to steal a base unless the player has at least 80 speed.Fan of....

Re: STEALING HELP!!
It is really hard. I am 1 for about 20 myself and all attempts have been with Juan Pierre, BJ Upton or Hanley Ramirez. I think a key is to watch the strikezone instead of the pitcher. As soon as the strikezone fades out, the pitcher is coming to the plate. I am 0-1 with this theory though.Prototype Supreme

Re: STEALING HELP!!
ok thanks...i think the main part of my problem is that i am not getting a good enough jump but i will definately try adjusting pitch speed and baserunner speedComment

Re: STEALING HELP!!
I have this problem also because on the game they make it so much harder to steal than they use to. If you think about it it's quite ridiculous on the game because of the odd timing that you have to get down ( ie the like 3 sec. between holding down the trigger and when they go). I pretty much do not attempt to steal anymore, but maybe you will get lucky in one of my dynasties I had some sort of weird glitch where every time I stole a base, even if the 2nd or 3rd baseman got the ball before I got to the base, I would slide under it lol. I am sad to say though that the glitch does not work in any of my other dynasties.Go Illini!Comment

I have found that it is all in the timing. It seems you can take off right before the pitcher starts moving. If you are a little early, he will just turn and pick you off. If you time it right tho, easy steal. With that being said, I'm still not a good base stealer because you have to just guess when the pitcher is going to throw. Then go right before. Not easy to do.Comment

Re: STEALING HELP!!
Dave Bush, Doug Davis, Felix Hernandez are just a few of these guys who have a hitch in their motion.
Finding the right time to steal is also imperative (as others have mentioned)...try and get a three step lead, and release the trigger as soon as you see the pitcher move his foot.
If you've got two speedy guys at the top of the order, and can get them both on base, then you should try a doing a double steal. Using the left bumper to get a lead w/ all baserunners, get your lead, and take off on the pitchers first move.
The catcher routinely throws to 3rd, and I've found more often than not that his throw can be off and sometimes even though you look to be out the 3rd basemen doesn't apply the tag.
*Note* That if the runner IS thrown out @ 3rd then due to a stattracking glitch the runner @ 2nd will be considered "out" in the boxscore too; but not in the game. Thus, statiscally you won't get credit for the steal.Last edited by JBH3; 07-21-2009, 03:10 PM.Originally posted by Edmund BurkeAll that is needed for the triumph of evil, is for good men to do nothing.Comment
