I like the pitching and hitting in 2k9 a little better. I like the pitching in 2k8, I think the 3rd step of pitching (releasing the stick) was realistic, the pitcher isn't going to release the ball at the right moment every time. However, the pitching in 2k9 is good. I like that the contact hitting actually works in 2k9, in 2k8 I've only been able to get the batter to actually swing on a contact hit twice during the course of probably 30-40 attempts.
However, I like the presentation of 2k8 better. The commentary and the pre- and post-game stuff is better. 2k8 also had better in-game cut scenes and analysis of what was happening during the game. The commentary in 2k8 was the best I've heard in a game, maybe with the exception of MLB 09: The Show, but I think that it's on par with The Show. The fielding and baserunning in 2k8 are also far better than in 2k9, but I think that's something that might just take some getting used to.
For those of you that have played both 2k8 and 2k9, which would you reccomend? Finally, I know that MLB 09: The Show is probably far better than either 2k8 or 2k9, but I've played the demo for The Show and sucked at it, yet I've had reasonable success with the 2k games. Out of over 100 at-bats in the demo for The Show, I managed to get 1 hit. Not 1 base hit... 1 time where the bat made contact with the ball and stayed fair.
