MLB2k7 broken online?

Me and a friend who lives across the country both bought MLB2k7 over the weekend to play each other at what seemed to be a steal - $5 used for each of us.

We accepted that the game was "old," but that at least it was baseball, and even possibly one of the "better" ones available for the Xbox 360. What a great deal.

Then we go online. We play each other through "Play a friend" because evidently the 2k sports online service is either down, or entirely unsupported for this title.

Then comes the reason I am posting this. The gameplay. Batting was absolutely atrocious. Even 1-button hitting ("classic") was extremely hard. The ball comes too fast for you to play the strategy of baseball. Instead, you just swing nearly immediately after when the pitch is thrown. This is not baseball. This is insane. Is it like this for everyone else?

I mean, the online "pitches come in too fast" problem makes it so bad, that the game is about as engaging as a baseball mini-game played on a cell phone. You have to swing at everything as soon as the pitch is released if you want to hit anything. No strategy, no "game within the game" in this.

I am pretty sure they discontinued 2K8 games and down outside of APF2K8 and NFL2K5. Rest are not supported anymore i beleive.

Is this an online lag issue? Because the pitch speed in the offline game isn't fast enough for me, even with the pitch speed slider at 100. In fact, VC lowered the default pitch speed in MLB 2K9 even further; the fastest pitch speed is probably 20% slower than the top pitch speed in previous versions of the game. Which for me makes playing 2K9 practically unbearable.

My idea of baseball and baseball strategy is to set the game to play at a difficulty level that mimics the real game. And hitting a baseball is supposed to be the toughest thing to do in all sports.

I remember 2k7 playing great online. probably has something to do with the servers being shut down.
