Re: When You Look At Their Other Titles, Why MLB 2K10?
For next-gen consoles, 2K7 is the best that 2K has offered. In fact, I still say that game had some really impressive presentation. My main issue with 2K7 was its online portion, but I'm a big league player, so it might bother me more than others. The game also had some framerate issues. But yes, I agree, 2K7 was pretty good.Being kind, one to another, never disappoints.Comment

MLB 2K9 showed great promise in a lot of areas.
The real-time presentation is great(though I wish it was multi-threaded) and the pitching mechanic itself is very good. I also love Signature Styles; they're terrific.
The game also had a lot of problems which are well documented by now. MLB 2K7 was a big step forward, 2K8 a step back and 2K9 treaded water in many ways. If 2K10 cannot take another step forward, Take2 likely has lost me as a customer.Comment

Re: When You Look At Their Other Titles, Why MLB 2K10?
I can't speak to NBA2K10's performance online but I think you casually disregard everything they tried to incorporate w/that game. It's arguably the most feature-rich sports title to date given NBA Today, My Player, one of the top franchise modes available in Association, and Blacktop mode. Most of which is online-enabled. I'd argue they perhaps are trying to do too much, given some people refuse to see the forest through the trees. There's a tremendous amount of content in that game for a sports title, yet you're focusing on one aspect and seem to be inferring that the title itself should be considered mediocre or that 2K "doesn't care" because of that.
In regards to MLB2k10, last year's game was Visual Concept's first crack since taking over development. It'd be nice to see people give them the same amount of time most seem willing to give Tiburon in their effort to get Madden straight, but my guess is they won't - even though that situation is even more restrictive than this one. I think MLB2K10 will be a solid title given Visual Concept's track record. I think the game has a decent/good foundation with what they're doing in terms of right-stick pitching/hitting/throwing, and I think what they started with real-time presentation and interruptible commentary were innovative and can be built on - things I've read many people would like to see in The Show. I don't think 2K10 will be as refined as The Show 10 will be, and probably won't be as refined as The Show '09. But I do think 2K is showing promise/innovation in key areas, and they deserve the chance to make the game good. At least as much chance as people are willing to give other sports titles.
NBA2K10 is crack for me. Bad example to use 2K10 Basketball as a negative.
Anyways just like last year I will walk out of the store with MLB2K10 and MLB The Show 10 and play each for myslef. Waaay to many bad reviews out there for games I enjoyed. So I make the deciioon fpr myself.Joshua:

Re: When You Look At Their Other Titles, Why MLB 2K10?
I am with you on the reviews of games sometimes misleading things, but as far as NBA 2K10 goes, it had some issues (and still has some online issues) on release. I picked it up today because I want to enjoy it post-patch, but in light of that I hope MLB 2K10 doesn't arrive with issues that need to be fixed or are unfixable.
As far as MLB goes I'm sure they will release will issues we think are inexcusable. Hopefully though they dont pull an "EA NCAA Basketball 10" and not support the title after release.Joshua:

Re: When You Look At Their Other Titles, Why MLB 2K10?
It's very simple, they should have just built around the 2k7 mold. Every year since has been awful. 2k7 was great looking and great playing. The only gripe was the simplicity of hitting bombs and robbing them. The framerate sucked at times. Other than those issues I just don't understand why they scrapped it?Comment

Re: When You Look At Their Other Titles, Why MLB 2K10?
I went back and played two games of 2K9 last night, and I stand-by my original assessment; it's a game with a lot of problems but a lot of great things to build off of.
Batting/Pitching animations are top notch, the commentary and broadcast-style presentation is a huge improvement over 2K8 and the lighting in day games is very good. The pitching mechanic remains a lot of fun and the cursor hitting does offer excellent ball-to-bat physics.
I had fun during both games and once again saw the promise in this series with Visual Concepts at the helm. I eagerly await Wednesday's release of information and screens!Comment

Did they change something after demo to release title? The demo was actually pretty fun. I remember the IE stuff not working rpoperly but they fixed that with a patch correct?
Any other stuff that got butchered from release to retail?Joshua:

Re: When You Look At Their Other Titles, Why MLB 2K10?
Ok, so I didn't play a single inning of 2K9 last year and I have played every other 2KX since it's inception. I guess most of the forum dwellers just scared me away and I had a PS3 so I went the other direction. I should also preface that I'm the type of player that wants to utilize some of my skill to enhance the game, but I do want the players real stats to have an effect. I hate when my pro players make a mistake because I run the wrong direction off of the bat. (I use the early assist or whatever that's called option) I like to choose pitches, decide where to throw, time my swings, make lineup changes and come up with strategies. That's really all I care to control. I'm definitely not cursor hitter guy or else I'd never get on base. I don't care about multi-year franchises, salary caps, home run derby and all that. I usually just play one full season each year for my 60 bucks. I know everybody is different with what they want out of baseball games, but the things I stated above are really all I care about.
Last year the only game I played was the Show. It is a beautiful game. RTTS is great and the game just has tons of polish and is a great product. Last night on a whim, I rented 2k9. I threw it in the 360 and played a single game. I can say that first off, I did notice where the polish was missing. Things didn't look as good and you could tell that many things with the little details didn't hold up to the Show. However, once I started playing the game, all of the little things that many people refer to as gimmicks (i.e. the pitching interface) kept the game really interesting. I can see where the game lags behind the Show but at the same time, I was really engaged in the control scheme and having fun playing the game... a lot of fun actually. I know it's just one game and there will be some things that I can't notice in just one game, but as far as just playing the game of baseball I had a lot of fun. And since I'm lucky enough to not be strapped for cash, I have decided that I'm getting both the Show and 2K10(360 version) this year. So yeah, I think a lot of gamers get really frustrated with 2K because they see the potential, but this game is nowhere near as bad as everyone wants to make it out to be, at least in the areas of concern for how I like to play my console baseball. That' my 2 cents.Comment

Re: When You Look At Their Other Titles, Why MLB 2K10?
Agreed; I think 2K/VC could do themselves a favor by concentrating more on delivering a game that plays well out of the box than on new/additional back of the box features. More often than not that first impression is what sticks with people.HBO's "The Wire" should rank as one of the top 10 shows EVER on tv - period

Re: When You Look At Their Other Titles, Why MLB 2K10?
all over the web people are debating the same things over 2k
- 2k7 was the best
- which developer worked on which year
- potential
the bottom line is that they have put out sub-par games ever since the next gen era began...
the way i see it, this is a blessing for 2k because they have nothing to lose in terms of development and trying new things...but i'll keep my eyes glued on these forums and i will see what the critics say before i go out and rent this one...

Re: When You Look At Their Other Titles, Why MLB 2K10?
2K 7 had potential i dont know what the heck Brinkman was thinking changing thigns so drastically. 2K8 was the worst. I despised that game, i gave it to a friend. I was like, i dont even want anything, just take it. lol
2K7's graphics were nice, but it used to piss me off online when every 3rd batter would hit a home run. Playing against the yankee's was not fun. End up with about 10 home runs a game. It pissed me off. lol Also, the ease of robbing home runs was terrible as well.
2K7 had potential, but i liked 2K9 overall. Online anyways. I dont play offline sports games.Comment
