I agree with Blzer here. Unrivaled was a complete mess and an atrocity to play. MLB 2K9 wasn't pretty, but it was at least playable (despite its often-confusing glitches) and was far better looking, playing and functioning than NBA Unrivaled was, not to mention a more fully-featured game overall.

True, 2K9 would essentially corrupt and render unplayable mulitple dynasties you worked long hours on...but it was far from the embarrassing mess Unrivaled ended up as (and I use that phrase as sincerely as possible).

I'm no 2K9 fanboy, in fact, I angrily traded the game in after every one of my dynasties were rendered unplayable (as said above), eventually purchased a PS3 after the price drop and now enjoy MLB 09 The Show, never going back to 2K Baseball until Visual Concepts demonstrates that they're serious about making a no-nonsense, realistic baseball sim. I just think there were far worse games than 2K9 this year and Pasta isn't exactly bettering his reputation by making a statement like this.

I'm not saying MLB2K9 doesn't deserve to be labeled as '09s worst sports game. I'd think 989's NBA game deserves some consideration, but I guess most don't expect much from it.

Sony didn't make a hoops game this year so it's not in the running.

That's my point - the criticism isn't fair when compared to other games. I use Madden as an example because I feel the titles are somewhat similar but perceived differently because of the differing standards they're held to. And all the more frustrating when you see a guy like Pastapadre pushing a certain agenda, which people fall in line and follow. I'm not trying to say 2K9 was a good game. While I feel it was an improvement over 2K8, I found 2K8 post-patch to be more engaging. But people/outlets like Pastapadre sicken me because they're part of the problem w/sports gaming today (imo). Given we don't have any choice but to accept exclusivity it'd be nice if these gaming sites that pass themselves off as more or less neutral worked towards informing gamers instead of steering them towards their products of choice.

That's what kills me. Madden can be looked at as a huge improvement and the outlook for it positive, despite the fact it hasn't done much to push football gaming forward. It's biggest contribution for having complete NFL exclusivity the past six years is Pro-Tak. And that feature's about to be eclipsed by a much smaller company w/no football development experience. At the very least MLB2K can point to many more areas where it's contributing to help push videogame baseball gaming forward. Yet some want to keep pushing this agenda that MLB2K's a complete failure while looking at Madden as a success. I don't get it myself

Great points. It seems many sites have agendas these days. Madden has been receiving good ratings since it's launch to next gen. We all know that all these next gen maddens are trash, but many sites give the game 8.9?? I agree that 2k9 was not great, but it wasn't terrible either.

When I look at 2k9 I look at things realisticly. To me 2k8 was terrible in many ways. So I didn't expect VC to make miracles in one year. 2k9 is decent at best. I don't think 2k10 is going to be great, but I'm hoping it's good at least.

Worst sports game? Definitely.

I will say that I think it has some serious upside though, so we'll see what happens this year.

Definitely worst of the Big 4 sports games (football, baseball, basketball, hockey) produced by the 3 main sports game developers (EA, 2K, SCEA).

i don't know...i honestly thought that ncaa basketball 09 was pretty pathetic. maybe it was pre-patch, but every time you played zone defense you could steal the ball EVERY time... i hated that game. did the classic rosters then traded it in...

Yes, but that game came out in 08', Pasta is talking about sports games in 09'.

Which someone else has mentioned, out of the major team sports games, it is definitely the weakest.

I enjoyed the game for a few months before I just couldn't take all the flaws and glitches anymore. I'm hoping for a big improvement. If not then I always have my trusty ps3 and the show.
