    Scales for Average/Power Ratings

I'm interested in doing rosters for this game in 2010, as I feel the series is getting back on track, and I think 2K10 will be a step up from 2K7 (the last time the series felt somewhat promising).

I'm just wondering if anyone knew the rating scales this game uses. I'm fairly certain it's the same ones used in MVP Baseball but I'm curious if anyone else knew any better.

I notice that the 2K ratings are as atrocious as ever, although it has a very MVP Baseball-like feel in it's simplicity (and thus, some potential). I'm happy they got rid of ratings like "doubles vs lhp" and "triples vs rhp" because those just overcomplicate things and make it a nightmare to edit players.

    Re: Scales for Average/Power Ratings

this is tricky...i did rosters for this game last year and the underlying problem is that 2k doesn't allow you complete editing abilities - especially for pitchers. so you have to work toward an "overall" rating at the expense of some of the other attributes.

i had no real scale i used...they weren't perfect, but i felt the overall feel of them made for a fun baseball gaming experience. the guys at mvpmods or eamods might have something helpful on this.

      Re: Scales for Average/Power Ratings

I'm fairly certain the rating scales are similar to the ones used for MVP, where a .300 average was an 80 contact.

I've noticed you can't change player positions (i'm sure this will be changed in 2K10), and that you cant change pitch types (not a huge biggie for me, because pitch edits are typically time consuming).

The main issues I've found is that a lot of retired stars have high ratings, whereas a lot of lesser knowns have really bad ratings that don't reflect their play.

Nelson Figueroa for instance, is 55 overall. Meanwhile, he threw a shutout in the Mets last game of the 2009 season. He was their only all-star at the AAA level, yet is barely good enough to play AA ball in the game.

Scott Olsen and Livan Hernandez on the other hand, suck donkey balls, but are rated 80 and 71 overall respectively.

Nomar Garciaparra: 78 overall despite a 700 OPS at first base.

Paul LoDuca: 67 overall, was terrible in 08 and didnt even play in 09. Meanwhile we've got Wil Nieves (57), Omir Santos (58), and a collection of other catchers actually in the league who are rated terribly.

I prefer NBA rosters, but my MVP rosters were actually vastly more popular, and that leads me to believe I'm capable of actually helping make MLB 2K borderline relevant.

        Re: Scales for Average/Power Ratings

yeah, you are on the money with those things. the ratings were so badly off - so what I did was find a handful of players that I thought their ratings were solid, and then start from there. It wasn't really scientific, just observations. And I wanted input from people who saw things ("trends") that I wasn't always aware of. There are SO MANY players in baseball that it's hard to get them all. Plus I was creating players and sometimes those scouting reports / notes would take me an hour to put together just for one person (pictures, coaches / managers quotes, newspaper articles) - I would scour this stuff and then try to make an assessment based upon what I was reading (as many of the CAPs were guys that came out of nowhere).

Like you, I'm hoping the CAP and editing system is expanded... If not, well, I guess we'll just have to make do.
