Yes, stability was an issue. It was down for about a week around Christmas. Perhaps they were overloaded but I know of many who could not connect at all because of it.

The big ONline problem for NBA2K was the team up portion which was so messed up. I think it would check everyones connections and if 2 didnt synch up, it would crash everything. I hope they change whatever it was and get it fixed.

It just sucks that we wont ever see ranked lobbies.

Is that because I usually stayed within my own franchise?

No, it was also NBA Today. And leagues. Stop apologizing for them.

Hopefully, since NBA's issues are solved MLB won't be a problem. But the past 3 years it has been the same old story - flaky upon release and once interest dwindles stability becomes the norm.

That is true. I like the possibilities of things like 2K's Crew feature and online leagues. I also understand it's a great undertaking, and getting the net code right is probably a beast, but they have consistently advertised leagues and online teamplay, along with other online features...and they don't always work.

Work kept me away the past couple days, so I just now read the MLB Today developer insight.

I am very excited to see the feature implemented. The NBA 2K videos get me excited, but I’m not fully sold in one regard. Baseball statistics are complex and – if the team plans to use splits – I worry the audio will sound “stitched.” I wonder how it’s implemented; “Longoria just owns Josh Beckett” sounds much better than “Longoria is (pause) six (pause) for (pause) ten (pause) against Josh Beckett.” Regardless, I am excited by the idea of commentary that reflects what is going on in the real world or in the franchise.

Furthermore, it makes firing up an exhibition game much more exciting. The game no longer exists in its own, stand alone bubble. It takes place in an evolving universe and the commentary will reflect that. I hate to use such a cliché word, but the entire experience will be organic.

The screens look sharp too. Who’s up, who’s down, etc. I also like the look of the graphics being used. The score at the top of the screen is simple (but classy) and the lower third/who’s up banner is the same. The headshot of Longoria also looks nice, and I wonder if 2K replaced it’s picture database. We all know it needed to; many of the pictures in 2K9 are outdated and show players wearing caps from two teams ago.

In all, I’m excited. Visual Concepts likely has another week (or week and a half) to polish the game before it goes gold.

Hehe, longer then that, 2K's sports games dont go gold until a week or 2 before its actual release date.

Looks really good so far. Like others have said, hope the gameplay is greatly improved, if so then 2k will get a purchase from me this year too.

It's roughly two weeks then, plus another two for pressing and distribution. I can only imagine the offices at Visual Concepts are a little hectic right now.

I imagine Steve and other sports gaming sites will get final copies in about three weeks or so judging by last year. I can hardly wait to see his screens and read his impressions.

I watched the NBA 2K game play videos posted earlier in the thread. I think Thorne and Phillips are better than Harlan and Kellogg, but I like what the NBA 2K team did with the commentary.

They understand in a TV style broadcast, the play-by-play does not need to keep up with every play. It is, after all, on TV; people are watching what happens. The best play-by-play people in the business let the game play out in front of them and add to it when necessary.

I also hope 2K does not replace Steve Phillips after this year. He did something stupid, not illegal -- and his voice work is solid.
