This is a very good game, but...

Does anyone else have trouble batting? I've played the demo a lot and can't seem to ever score any runs. I can get hits every now and then, but it rarely seems to happen leading off an inning. I'm not sure if it's me or the new batting angle playing tricks on me (timing is good one pitch, horrible the next), but I was wondering if anyone has some tips? I'm not new to 2K, I actually bought 2K7 and 2K8 before buying a ps3 and switching to The Show last year. But the demo really has me wanting to go and buy 2K baseball again, however my only issue is hitting.

So my question is: Do you guys use the contact swing, power swing, or both depending on the type of hitter that is up. And do you use the left stick at all?

P.S. I've scored 2 runs (should be three but earlier I hit a single to LF and I tried to send the runner home, and instead of going home immediately he stopped between 2nd and 3rd, then headed home but by that time the fielder had the ball ), I can't estimate how many games I've played, but it's probably around 20. The first time I scored was a Werth HR to the opposite field off Sabathia and another time I doubled and singled back to back in the bottom of the third to win the game. Thanks for any help.

The only thing that I would say is be patient. This game is probably not one that we can all pick up and start raking and scoring a lot of runs. With time, you'll get better.

I know that's kind of a lame response, but I think it's true.

I use contact swing for contact hitters, and power swings for power hitters.

As KingFelix said staying patient is important.

        Yeah, patience is key.

I feel that hitting was fairly easy in the demo. Heck, I scored four first-inning runs against C.C. The good thing is, it has varied. I've had dry spells and I've also hit some shots.

In my view, the hit variety is great. It's important to balance your contact and power swing usage. Don't go up there swinging for the fences with guys like Ruiz and Polanco.

I know 2k is promoting the new hitting mechanics and that's all well and good. They've reinvented things to a certain degree, but if you've played 2K constantly over the last few summers, like I have, it really shouldn't be too difficult to perfect. To me, it's like riding a bike.

As I've posted in other threads, I'm having an impossible time hitting with the stick. I mean, I can't even make contact. I strike out with almost every batter. I can't get the timing down at all. It was ok, because my fallback was zone hitting, which I liked last year, but then I found out yesterday they took this out.

So this year, I guess I better get better or not get the game. I think it's the camera angle for me. If I get the game and change the camera and I still can't hit, I guess I'll trade 2k10 in and get a PS3 and the other game. I'd rather not spend that much money though unless I have to, so I'm at least going to give 2k a shot.

be patient at the plate, figure out a pitchers tendencies, and wait on a pitch that you're comfortable hitting. This is true especially with the swing stick. also study your batters tendencies.

I dont thing the game is built for those that hack at any pitch.
              its not only timing.

I think that customizing the new batting camera or going back to the 2K9 Batting camera will help.

The camera is a little too zoomed out, and I found myself swinging way too early at everything (when you're in front of a 94 mph fastball, you need to slow down). I just made the adjustment, and made sure I let the ball get deeper in the zone. I think hitting in the demo is way too easy personally, but it's a very low difficulty, so that's to be expected.

I can somewhat relate. The camera angle is what throws me off a bit. It seemed that I would get out in front of every pitch. As I started to slow down my reaction a bit, I started hitting more consistently.

Isn't this something that can be helped by tweaking the sliders until you have the hitting results you want?

Seriously? You shouldn't be able to just pick it up and mash. There should be a learning curve.

I'm not expecting to pick it up and score 20 runs in a three-inning demo, but I feel more than two runs in 60+ innings should be doable. And considering I'm not new to 2K baseball or the swing stick, I found it to be odd.

Thanks to those who responded... I took your advice about having patience (which I was probably lacking) and played a game a little while ago and didn't focus on swinging. I spent the entire game just watching pitches and trying to get the timing part of it down. Then I played a game and am proud to say I put up two second-inning runs against Joba Chamberlain.

I scored by doing what you guys said, being patient (singled, worked a 1-2 count to a 3-2 count and drew a walk, got HBP on a 2-0 pitch, singled home two runs) and it really paid off. So thanks again for the input.

I'll try what you all suggested. The problem I'm having with patience is, I do take alot of pitches, but it doesn't seem like the pitchers throw alot of balls, so I get behind in the count very early.

Like someone mentioned though, I really think it's the camera angle. I think adjusting it will make a big differnece on the timing aspect, although it may make it harder to judge balls/strikes.

I'm hoping there is an offset view, like the MVP view. The Show has one and I'm pretty sure 2K did too last year. Those views are by far the best way to time the ball coming in, although it takes a long time to get used to judging location that way. I didn't see an offset view in the pictures OS posted, but I don't know why 2K would remove that from the game, so I'd imagine its probably there.

I definatly struggled at first but after 20 or so games im finally getting better. Like others have said the hit variety is great. You have to be more patient than the last few years as all the pitchers throw out of the zone frequently.
