Re: MLB 2K10 Franchise Progress
I decided to scratch my old franchise and start a new one because of the new patch. This time around I went with the Oakland Athletics. I did another fantasy draft and so far my team consists of:
Pitchers
Brett Anderson
Tommy Hanson
Jonathan Sanchez
David Price
Jose Contreras
Bullpen
Tim Wakefield
Michael Wuertz
Carlos Marmol
Andrew Bailey
Lineup
C - Matt Wieters
1B - Albert Pujols
2B - Dustin Pedroia
3B - Ian Stewart
SS - Cliff Pennington
LF - Cameron Maybin
CF - Michael Bourn
RF - Nelson Cruz
DH - Hideki Matsui
My pitching staff, with the exception of Marmol and Bailey, is probably my weakest point. The upside is that they're relatively young and have potential to improve. I have a lot of power, speed and defense in my lineup. I will be relying heavily on my bats and bullpen to win games because my starting pitching is suspect.
I'm about to play the first game of a four-game series in the season opener against the Mariners.Comment

does the patch affect your franchise even if youve already got one going on or do you have to start over?Comment

Re: MLB 2K10 Franchise Progress
Also, quick update.
Just wrapped up the month of April by winning 2 out of 3 from the D-Backs, including a come from behind win in which I was down 3-1 in the 6th only to come back and win 6-3.
Next series is 3 @ SF. Heres the NL West Standings so far this season:
Rockies (Me) 14-7
Giants 12-8
Padres 9-11
Dodgers 7-13
D-Backs 5-15
Giants seem to be the only real competition so far. Hopefully I can win this series too.Comment

Re: MLB 2K10 Franchise Progress
Finished up the Pirates series, and played the reds series in my cubs franchise. As I posted before, I won the first two games of the series against the Pirates.
Game 3 vs Pirates- Randy Wells pitched a decent game going 6 innings allowing 3 runs. I was able to push across 3 runs of my own against Ross Ohlendorf. I pinch hit for Randy Wells in the top of the 7th, and in the bottom of the 7th I put in Jeff Gray. The pitcher spot comes up and Pitt pinch hits Garret Jones(who is on the bench in favor of Steven Pearce) for the pitcher, and he puts on in the left field seats. This was all on me because I should've had John Grabow warming up in the pen once I saw the pitchers spot was due up, because I should've easily known that Jones was probably coming up to bat for the pitcher. Lost this one 4-3. Jermaine Dye went 1-5 in his debut as a Cub.
Game 1 vs the Reds- My offense poured it on against Johnny Cueto just like the last time we faced him. Jermaine Dye put on a show, 3-4 a walk, 4 runs, 1 double, 2 HR's, and 5 RBI's. I was up 10-2 in the bottom of the 8th when I bring in Esmalin Caridad. He proceeds to give up 3 runs and then gets out of the inning. Jeff Samardzija comes in to pitch the bottom of the 9th, and gives up back to back homers to Votto and Bruce. He settled down and got the last 3 outs, and we won 10-7.
Game 2- My offense was on again, scoring 7 runs. Our pitching did well the whole game this time, and we won 7-2.
Game 3- I got dominated. Ted Lilly pitched 5 innings, giving up 4 runs. I bring in Sean Marshall hoping he can give me two or three innings to save my pen, and keep the score where it's at so we can get back in it. Nope, he gives up 7 runs in the 6th inning, and a few more the next. We lost this one 13-0.
Now I stand at 17-15, 9 games back of the 26-6 Cardinals. There is good news(only because it's a video game, I don't root for injuries in real life), the Cardinals lost slugger Ryan Ludwick for 2-4 months. He was hitting .398 with 8 HR's, so hopefully they will slow down now and I can gain ground on them.
I have a 3 game series against the Marlins next, then another 3 game series against the Pirates. And then a couple 2 game series against Colorado and Phillidelphia.
Yes, it will apply to your franchise that you already have going, you don't have to start over.Comment

Good stuff duke, least you're playing .500 ball. Man, what is up with those damn Cardinals... they are on fire. Have to see if the Ludwick injury slows them down any. Keep charging man.Comment

Re: MLB 2K10 Franchise Progress
Thanks. Yeah, it's a lot of fun to play with this lineup. Pujols is a beast in the game and Bourn's 99 speed makes stealing bases a heck of a lot easier. But I can already tell after four games that my pitching is going to give me problems.Comment

I'm not sure but I didn't want to take a chance. It wasn't that big of a deal because I didn't play that many games to begin with.Comment

Re: MLB 2K10 Franchise Progress
Well, I just finished my four-game series against the Mariners and I took the series three games to one. My pitching staff has already given up 17 runs in four games, but at least our offense was able to generate enough runs (15) in that span to win the series 3-1. Still, the 9-0 beating we took in our last game leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
Quick stats for this series:
Albert Pujols is batting .294 with 1 HR and 4 RBI's.
Nelson Cruz is batting .353 and has 2 RBI's.
Dustin Pedroia is batting .222 and has 3 RBI's.
Brett Anderson has an ERA of 0.00 through 9 innings with 2 K's.
Next up the Angels. This is going to be a tough series because I'll have to face Jake Peavy and Adam Wainwright! Their offense is leady by Brian McCann and J.D. Drew.Last edited by dragon4ever; 03-20-2010, 08:19 PM.Comment

Re: MLB 2K10 Franchise Progress
I just played a game vs SF and after Jose Reyes got a hit, Steve Phillips commented on how they need to get that ball and give it to him because it was Reyes' 1000th hit. Pretty neat little piece of commentaryComment

Re: MLB 2K10 Franchise Progress
Been playing as the O's a lot. I think I'm going to stick w/ them, and the Phillies for the foreseeable future in my all-30 teams franchise.
Have the Os clearly in 2nd in the AL East @ 22-15 and only a game and a half behind the Yanks. Since taking over for them I am 7-2 having swept the Mariners, taken 3 of 4 from Minny, and am 1-1 in my current series w/ the Tribe. This O's team is awesome. I've been absolutely crushing the ball, and had some favorable steal matchups, swiping 5 bags off Ian Snell in an 8-3 win over SEA.
Adam Jones is awesome, and I've been almost as successful w/ Luke Scott as I was w/ Ryan Howard; probably even moreso. The O's are a team I see myself playing as for the long haul, and the division they are in makes it really fun to play as them.
If I'm in contention for a wildcard spot by the All-Star break I'm thinking of dealing for a starting pitcher who is about to hit free agency. Brandon Webb comes to mind, and Arizona is sitting a few game under .500. What would be a fair deal for him from BAL? Is there anyone else you guys think I should go after? Roy Oswalt maybe? I was thinking I'd send Jeremy Guthrie over in any deal since he's a FA, and is 1-4 w/ a 6.04 ERA. I'd need to open up a rotation spot, and with Kevin Millwood pitching solid, Brad Bergessen being my best pitcher right now, being committed to the development of lefty Brian Matusz, and favoring Kojo Uehara over Guthrie, Guthrie seems like the odd man out.
Tonights Game:
Just lost a heartbreaker against the Brewers (playing as PHI). Roy Halladay had cruised throw 4 and 2 thirds when Ryan Braun put MIL on the board for thier first run and first hit of the game; a solo HR to LF.
Yovani Gallardo was dealing too, but he ran into trouble in the B6th and ended up allowing 3 hits and 2 walks in the inning to give up the lead; PHI on top 2-1.
Fast forward to the B8th, Halladay still on the mound, and the first 3 batters of the inning reach on singles. With the bases loaded I was able to get Joe Inglett to hit a ground ball to 3rd, and had the IF playing middle-in. Polanco went home w/ the ball to get the force out at the plate, and I was able to get Inglett out right before he got to first.
Alcides Escobar came up next, he was 0-3 on the day. First pitch a tried to locate a cutter on the outside corner, but it caught too much of the plate and he sent a single down the 1B line scoring two run, and taking the lead 3-2.
Trevor Hoffman struck out Jayson Werth and Raul Ibanez, I pinch hit Gregg Dobbs for Polanco and Dobbs drew a walk, but Hoffman would get Brian Schnieder to K for the third out and a save.
FINAL
PHI 2 4 0 - Zero XBHs
MIL 3 6 0 - 1 HR; 5 1Bs
WP: Todd Coffey 2.0 IP, 0H, 1BB, 2K.
LP: Roy Halladay 8.0 IP, 6H, 3ER, 0BB, 9K (80 Pithes).
I just couldn't get anything off Gallardo (94 Pitches). He walked 4, but gave up only 4 hits and struck out 5. It was sort of refreshing to see a game where my bats went quiet, especially w/ such a potent lineup.Last edited by JBH3; 03-23-2010, 01:56 AM.Originally posted by Edmund BurkeAll that is needed for the triumph of evil, is for good men to do nothing.Comment
