    Re: MLB 2K10 Franchise Progress

Completed the sweep of the Diamondbacks.

The game was pretty odd because going into the 9th we both had 11 hits but I was up 7-1 on the scoreboard. Started out great in the 1st with a McCutchen hit,he stole (Harren was pitching, really easy to steal off him),Sizemore got a base hit to score him,Sizemore gets the steal and then Jones got a base hit to score him but he didn't get anywhere. Alverez hit a 3 run HR in the 5th. They had the bases loaded at some point with no outs but I got 2 strikeouts and a grounder to get out of it without them scoring. They also had a runner on 3rd with 1 out twice they couldn't get in (double play and a flyout + strikeout) so really it should've been 7-5.

As I finally noticed 6 games in...Sizemore is useless against lefties and Phillips is useless against righties. Think I've got all that sorted out now.

      Re: MLB 2K10 Franchise Progress

After downloading a roster containing the top prospects for each team (and determining that it did not suck, in sharp contrast to 95% of the other rosters on 2Kshare) and taking control of the Phillies, I simulated Spring Training. Dominic Brown decided to hit .278 for 4 RBI, essentially a cry to be sent back down to AA. It's the season opener in Washington, D.C.! Unlike real life there are Nationals fans in Nationals Park: just another example of how much this game fails to achieve an acceptable amount of realism. Roy Halladay decided he'd be a gigantic tease and pitch 7 innings with 10 strikeouts, but give up 9 hits and 4 runs along the way. Heading into the 8th inning down 4-2 I entered a state of rage which clouded my judgment, causing me to warm up Chad Durbin and Danys Baesz to pitch the next inning. Leadoff hitter Shane Victorino failed to get on base and Carlos Ruiz promptly imitated his failure. Now the pitcher spot was up and bench player extraordinaire Ben Francisco was chosen to pinch hit. He doubled. Jimmy Rollins came up to flip the order back over. Still with 2 outs I expected little else than immediate, cowardly failure. He doubled. Now I was down just one run. Up came Placido Polanco. He was 2-3. He singled. Rollins slowed at third and now it was runners at the corners, 2 outs. Chase Utley strolled to the plate. He was 0-3. He singled. Rollins scored and I once again had runners on the corners, 2 outs. Hello Ryan. Care to do something but go 0-0 with 2 walks and a HBP today? He flew out. Due to my expectations for horrible, I had no actual pitchers read to get me out of the bottom of 8th. I brought in Chad Durban. He showed little fear in getting 3 outs on 15 pitches. My hitters used only 7 pitches to ruin themselves and end the top half of the ninth, but this time I was prepared! In comes Ryan Madson, setup expert. He would serve honorably in giving up 2 hits immediately to the top of their order and have Najyr Morgan standing 85 feet away from home plate the whole time. Enjoy your 3 strikeouts, middle of the order. The top of the 10th was a repeat of the top of the 9th: that is to say that my hitters failed miserably and made me even angrier than I already was. I brought in J.C. Romero to face some lefties. He would serve 3 innings, give up 2 hits (both in different innings, one a double and one a single) and striking out 5. Top of the 13th. J.C. Romero and his 37 stamina have pitched to 10 batters and thrown close to 40 pitches. Ross Gload to lead off the inning, as both Dobbs and Francisco had already been used. First pitch a 406ft home run to dead center field. Brad Lidge would enter the game with his team up 5-4. He would strike out the final batter after earning 2 outs on 3 pitches. Simulate 5 days because playing 162 games is ****ing insane and it's Cole Hamels' first user-controlled start. His last time out he went 7.2 innings allowing just 2 runs on 5 hits, 2 walks and 6 strikeouts. He received offensive support in the form of 11 runs, most off of starter Jason Marquis. The first inning began with a Rollins single. Polanco singles, runners on the corners. Polanco picked off first. Utley gets Rollins home with a base hit. Howard gets a single, runners on the corners. Werth singles, Utley scores. Runners on first and second, 1 out. Ibanez draws a 4 pitch walk. Victorino to the plate, bases loaded, 1 out, no hitter so far has failed to reach base. Double play. 3rd inning. Still 2-0. Bases loaded, one out for Victorino. A chance to redeem himself and get the team out to a big lead! Hamels has given up just 1 hit so far, doing a tremendous job of keeping a weak Nationals lineup in check. Double play. Eventually a run is scored, and Utley and Howard both eventually hit upper deck solo bombs off relievers in the late innings. Bottom of the 8th, 5-0, bases loaded, one out for Raul Ibanez. Double play. Hamels ignores the heavy fatigue and finishes the 9th flawlessly, going 9.0 IP with 6 strikeouts, 0 walks and just 5 hits allowed. A dominating performance. After this game the Phillies are 6-2 (dropped 2 to the Astros, unfortunately) and in 2nd place, a half game back of the Marlins who are 6-1. In other news, Steven Strassburg was placed in the Majors immediately and lost his first start; he went 5.2 IP and struck out 5 with 3 walks and just 3 runs, but lost due to lack of run support.

^That is very hard to read my friend.^
Any way I am now 25-15 in my Reds Chise.
I am 4 games ahead of both the Astros and Cardinals. I only got in one game last night and I lost to the Braves 5-3, Chipper hit a 3 run jack in the 3rd.
Here are some players stast after 40 games.
        Player ave hr rbi
        Votto .333 9 31
        Bruce .299 10 30
        Phillips .355 2 22
        Cabera .359 0 14
        Rolen .300 0 16
        Stubbs .311 3 15 5 sbs
        Hernandez .277 3 15
        Gomes .355 9 22

As you can see I have some guys with very high averages, this is because I used BFJ's sliders the first 20 games and hit .355 as a team. I have used MKMARSHS sliders the last 20 games and hit .277 as a team. After 20 games almost every everyday player was hitting over .360. I would really suggest everyone gives his sliders a try, you will not be dissapointed. The hit variety is great with them. Below are my pitchers stats, once again my team ERA was 2.08 after 20 games with BFJ's sliders. In the last 20 games my team ERA is 4.55

        Pitcher w-l era
        Champman 4-2 2.46
        Arroyo 2-3 4.22
        Harang 5-1 2.10
        Cueto 2-1 3.33
Bailey 1-4 5.22 (may get sent down soon)
        Cordero 0-3 5.66 13 saves-he blew 5 of his first 6 saves and had a ERA of over 20.
Since then he has saved 12 games in a row.

Okay, so I was able to workaround my problem by attempting to get into Game 1 of my series against the Rockies via the team schedule screen, and it worked. So, I guess I'll be doing it like that from now on. I also turned on the ability to edit CPU rosters so that I could fix the MLB rosters post draft the best that I can.

It still will not let you change the line ups unless the are controlling all 30 teams in the franchise from the beginning.
I know it has an option to edit cpu line ups but is just wont let you, go in and try to edit a cpu line up.
Also when is the draft in the game, what day and month?

I will have to check these out, b/c i feel the same way about bfj's sliders this yr, alot of my scores and stats are unrealistic. thanks for the post

Haven't gotten to that point yet, but I'd imagine I would look at each team's expiring contracts, on a case by case basis, evaluate the players position/age in relation to talent available within the organization, determine the likelihood of them re-signing or testing the free agent market, while also determining the position of their current team, that being a rebuilding movement, potential contender, etc.

You basically have to be an un-biased GM. Even though you would like to build the team you're primarily controlling doing an all-30 teams franchise, you can't stack your team, and leave nothing for other teams.

There's not an exact science to it, but this is sort of the basis of what I'll be doing.

This may have been discussed, but does the CPU ever rest players during a series? I'm early on in my Franchise (2nd week), but every game the other team keeps the same lineup.

I'm guessing this is just another of the many franchise bugs.

No resting players at all from what I can see, I am 40 games into my season.
The only time they dont use the same line up every game is some teams have different line ups for righties and lefties.

Has anyone made it to the draft yet? I know this isn't a big issue for most people but in previous game the average height for draftees was like 5'7, and the average height for first round picks was 5'9.

I know this isn't a big deal for most people but the last two drafts have had like one or to guys under 6 feet being drafted. And there aren't any 5'7 pitchers in the majors as far as i know. It just takes away from the realism of the game from me.

I dont think they rest players. Kind of a drag.

However, if you choose to sim a game, and lets say one of your guys stamina was pretty low, the SIM AI may actually replace that low stamina guy for a high stamina guy off the bench.

I am 2-6 with my Tigers. I just lost my 4th in a row to the Mariners 12-4 last night. I was up 1-0 after the 1st inning, in the 4th I let up 4 and in he 6th I came back to tie the game 4-4 and was pumped untill I let up 6 runs in the 7th and 2 runs in the 8th.

I have won like 25 Super Bowls in Madden so I am kinda a big deal.
