PHILLIES ADVANCE TO THIRD STRAIGHT WORLD SERIES
Phillies defeat Cardinals by taking games 5 and 6.
Game 5 was a pitcher's duel of enormous proportions. Halladay/Wainwright was not the lopsided affair it was in gm1. Wainwright was still virtually untouchable, but Halladay, in front of his home crowd, was determined to win and erase any doubts caused by a 11 hit roughing up loss that gave STL a 1-0 lead in the NLCS.
Halladay would go 8 strong innings, striking out 6, walking one, and scattering 7 hits. Wainwright would go 7 innings, striking out 12, walking one, and allowing only 3 hits.
Manager Tony LaRussa made a tough decision to pinch hit for Wainwright in the T7th w/ one out and runners on 2nd and 3rd. STL did not get a run over.
Ryan Franklin would come on at that point to picht a hitless/scoreless 8th, but in the 9th w/ one out surrendered a walk-off HR to Chase Utley and the Phillies won game 5 of the 2010 NLCS 1-0 in the bottom of the 9th.

Game 6 pitted Cole Hamels vs Chris Carpenter in STL. Hamels allowed the first two STL batters to reach before getting Albert Pujols to hit into a DP, and wind up getting out of the inning unscathed. With two outs in the B1st and Placido Polanco on 2nd, Chris Carpenter left a FB too high in the zone and Ryan Howard sent it sailing into right-center for his 5th HR of the postseason.
Ryan Ludwick would get STL on the board though w/ a solo HR in the B2nd.
Cole Hamels was not on his game like he was in gm2 where he kept STL off balance, and secured Philly's 1st win of the series. He wound up allowing 9 hits over 4 innings and was pulled after the 4th having allowed STL to tie the game, and also being the 2nd batter of the inning in the T5th.
Kevin Correia would come on to pitch in his first outing since the NLDS. He would go 4 solid innings, and Philly would take a 3 run lead in the 6th after Jayson Werth singled Polanco in from 2nd and then w/ 2 outs Raul Ibanez hit a 2rHR to dead center off of Dennys Reyes; who came on to pitch to Utley and Howard and was left in to get the 3rd out after retiring both.
Correia would cruise through the 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th and Jayson Werth would get his 2nd hit of the game that resulted in an RBI single as Philly took a 6-2 lead into the bottom of the 9th.
What would happen next would have me on the edge of my seat. Correia, having allowed only 2 hits over 4 innings, surrendered singles to Yadier Molina and David Freese to begin the inning and the STL rally was in full effect. With Conrad Lusnar (CPU created player) pitching for Jason Motte, Correia surrendered his 3rd hit of the inning allowing Yadier Molina to score from 3rd.
With lefthanded Skip Schumaker coming up next, matchups ensued. Lefty Sean Burnett came out to face Schumaker, getting him to ground out, but advancing the two runners on base into scoring position; Schumaker was almost safe at first.
With Brendan Ryan due up next, closer Ryan Madson called in to relieve Burnett. He'd allow a single on a 2-2 count, and Brendan Ryan would drive in 2 runs to cut the 6-5. Albert Pujols would walk on 6 pitches, and up steps Matt Holiday w/ runners on 2nd and 1st w/ 1 out. On a 1-1 count Holliday would rip a screaming line drive that went foul, but would've been a HR. On the very next pitch he'd rip another liner, one that almost made it's way through the infield, but J-Roll made a stabbing lunge and almost double up Brendan Ryan on a tag at 2nd.
2 outs. Runners on 2nd and 1st. Lefty Colby Rasmus stepping up to the plate. His power vs righties was 75, and I wasn't going to risk it w/ Madson w/ JC Romero warming up.
So in comes Romero, I planned to stay on the inside as much as possible, and kept feeding Rasmus sliders and inside fastballs. He had fouled off about 4 pitches, so I figured I'd try a change up on the out side corner. I kept him to lunge at it in a defensive swing, and in doing so he lines out to 2B Chase Utley for the 3rd out. 3 pitchers used in the 9th to record 3 outs. What a game! By far the toughest and most rewarding win thus far w/ MLB 2K10.

2010 World Series Preview
So it is onto the 2010 World Series, the Phillies will be facing off w/ a team making their 1st World Series appearance again. In 2008 it was the TB Rays, this time it is the Texas Rangers, lead by Josh Hamilton, Michael Young, Ian Kinsler, and a resurgent Vladimir Guerrero.
IN 2010:
Hamilton hit 34 dingers and drove in 110, hitting .283.
Kinsler went yard 25 times, driving in 98, hitting .252, and adding 30 SBs.
Young hit .315 driving in 23 HRs and 96 RBI, and also adding 11 steals.
Vlad hit .279 w/ 21 HRs and 85 RBI, w/ a 93:105 BB:K ratio.
Pitching was sort of suspect for Texas, but Harden did win 17 games despite a 4.21 ERA. He struck out 194 over the regular season. Neftali Feliz became the closer after Frank Francisco struggled in that role; Francisco blew 8 SVs in 16 opportunities. By contrast, Feliz saved 25 games in 29 chances, striking out 33 in 30.2 innings pitched.
Was hoping for a NYY/PHI rematch, but I like this TEX/PHI matchup.
