    Discuss Jason Heywards Rating

In this thread we will discuss Jason Heywards rating.

So far, I've heard they had to put up nets beyond the right field wall at the Braves spring training stadium to prevent more Braves exec's cars from being damaged. Heard there's some shattered sunroofs, dented cars, etc. Bobby Cox says the sound that comes from his bat is that of Hank Aaron or Mickey Mantle. See ajc.com articles for reference.

First spring training game Heyward had 2 walks and a ROPED single (first time this year I've seen hit him and I understand the Hank Aaron comparison now). He advanced to second on two separate occasions on balls in the dirt and also stole third once.

    Reference:

I believe "James Hunter" is his minor league name. Rated 64 OVR.

What kind of rating should Heyward get if he makes the opening day roster?

I'm thinking somewhere along the lines of 75 OVR. 80ish power is probably fair, 70ish contact. 77 or 78 speed. Above average fielding and above average throwing arm.

    What does everyone else think?

I am thinking mid 70's maybe.

Huge Braves fan and am excited to see what this kid can do. Apparently the guy is the S%$^.

Tommy Hanson and Jason Heyward will be the cornerstones of the Braves for a long time hopefully.

I'm not sure about the rating, but I believe he is baseball america's top prospect overall, so he deserves some ratings respect. It will be interesting to see if the Braves organization has him on the opening day roster.

          Two questions:

What big leaguer is he projected to be similar to? Past or present? Bonds?

also: is he going to be in the bigs this year? Is he going to make the team out of ST?

I say 75 is about accurate with power against RHP around 91 or 92 from everything i read

He's going to be a great player, yes, but you can't give a guy that's hit less than 60 doubles and 28 home runs in two seasons in the minors 90+ power. He's PROJECTED to be a great power hitter, he isn't there yet.

Heyward's hype and all things considered remind me a lot of Jay Bruce's, another former BBA Player of the Year. LH outfielder, a lot of power potential.

I wouldn't read into this too much yet. This early in ST he is probably hitting off guys who will be bagging groceries in a few weeks.

i got heyward at 74 could be higher but hes 21 with alot of potential so it really wouldnt matter where in the 70's he is with around 70power that will only get better over time. im a big fan of schaffer too i cant wait for them to be leading the outfield for years to come

RF: Jason Heyward (baseball america says best braves prospect for batting average, best for plate patience, and strongest arm)

CF: Jordan Schafer (pretty darn good)

LF: Cody Johnson (baseball america says best braves prospect for batting power)

yep sounds good to me. also like to see Brett DeVall make it. Him and Cody Johnson had some epic battles against each other when DeVall was a SO and Johnson was a SR in highschool.

i made Heyward around 75ish with low 72 contact 67 power, 75 eyes, and 85 arm strength potential is a 97 or 98.

I'm thinking around 75 OVR with VERY HIGH potential will be a fair rating from Heyward. It sounds like he will make the team out of spring training without any issue, especially considering his competition is Matt Diaz and Melky Cabrerra. You'll see a platoon with Melky and Matty in left field, Heyward starting in right.

I guess one could argue Heyward could be higher than a 75 considering both Matty Diaz and Melky Cabrerra are rated 80 I believe.

The official website of the Atlanta Braves with the most up-to-date information on news, tickets, schedule, stadium, roster, rumors, scores, and stats.

Ignore the article - there should be videos there of Heyward smashing a double and making a diving catch (though he had to dive because his cleet got stuck haha).
