    Problems stealing bases...

I play with the Rays. Carl Crawford is a speed demon. Stolen bases are so hard. Can someone give me tips? How do you slide head first into second? I always slide feet first and I'm out by a mile. this is after taking a big lead off and running as soon as he goes towards the plate.

Try pressing up on the left stick. That's how sliding head first is usually done in 2k baseball games.

You know I've had the same problem. You have to push the X button and supposedly push up on the left stick. My players don't even slide if I press up but if I press down they will slide feet first.. No head slides.. I can't figure it out. We really need more explanantion on the in's and out's of the game without having to experiment. 2k should release a how to guide... without us having to lose games because we didn't get instructions in our book with the game.

Just reporting on results, this didn't work. I'm now 0 for 10 and it's not even close

Yeah, its overly difficult in this game. Id say just keep lowering the AI catcher throw out success until you're comfortable with one.

Might be headed to zero soon

I might complete the season with no stolen bases and no errors or injuries. It's a shame because they got close this year with the sliders I've found, and I'm their toughest critic.

There isn't an A.I catcher throw out success slider. Only one for user controlled catchers.

                  take a 3 or 4 step lead
try to run on breaking or off-speed pitches
run off pitchers with a long delivery (it's real easy to steal off felix hernandez)
run off catchers who have a weak arm
                  slide head first

                    Re: Problems stealing bases...

I'm having more success stealing(playing in drills game mode) after raising the User base running speed slider to 55. But, I think the main ingredients for success are your jump and slide timing. Bad jumps = caught stealing, simple as that. Some pitchers are really hard to get a good jump on and some are extremely easy. Felix Hernandez and Mariano Rivera would fall into the extremely easy to steal on category. With Figgins and Granderson, I stole 10 bases each. Trying to steal with Crawford is another story... That freakin' Rays pitcher is so quick to the plate! I also noticed that, if you slide too early, your runner won't slide into the bag as good. I've spoiled great jumps by sliding too early. If you time your slide perfect, the runner will slide in real fast. I saw a cool animation just now where I slid into 2B at full speed, and hopped off the other side of the base, and my runner had to hurry up and put his foot back on the base, cause the fielder was reaching back to tag him.

cant slide head 1st to save my life.. really starting to question whether you have any control over it or if it's just a cutscene that plays out

plus, half the time you slide feet 1st if you go in and view the replay the tag wasnt even applied

I find it easier to steal this year. I'm playing a test franchise, various games and teams. I've stolen 4 out of 7 bases by getting a three or four step lead, then taking off as soon as the pitcher starts his motion.

Every time I try to get a good jump the pitcher steps off and I am toast. If I try to wait until he makes a move there is no steal attempt, what Am I doing wrong?

I learned that in this year's version you can take 3+ steps at 1st base. When you're on 1st, take 3 steps, then press and hold LT for the 4th step then release it when the pitcher winds up.

I get realistic amounts of steals with fast guys like Ichiro and Figgins, especially with slower pitches. If you get a fastball, just defensive swing it away.

This is good advice.... I will try this. But don't you get picked off a lot?
