How do you steal a base?

Can someone please explain to me how to steal a base in this game?

I'm doing the practice drills and I just can't seem to get it down. I'm holding the right trigger and I get the vibration after 2 seconds but the baserunner doesn't always go.

    What am I doing wrong?

It's left trigger and they go when you let it go. Not that it really matters since even if they do go with a good jump and lead it's overly difficult.

The runner starts to run when you release the trigger. Try taking a three step lead, then holding the trigger and releasing as soon as you see the pitcher begin his motion.

In the drills and My Player mode it's the right trigger unless you turn off player perspective controls in the controller options.

Not necessarily true. I've done this and stolen bases with Theriot, Fukudome and Fontenot. I think pitch count plays a little role in stealing. Choose counts that are ideal for stealing. It may be my imagination, but 1-1, 2-1 counts tend to give me better results than running on the first pitch. Just a thought.

I have had some (limited, but some nonetheless) success in my limited testing of base stealing.

It plays a role in the fact that breaking pitches are far easier to steal on than fastballs are.
