Can anyone steal consistently?

In 6 games playing the Nats I was able to steal one time successfully with Nyjer Morgan (90 spd I believe). I know thats not incredibly fast, but he's the fastest on my team.

I usually take 3 step leads which is the max I can do before they keep trying to pickoff. However the stealing is a crapshoot which most of the time fails and it looks like it doesn't matter if I get a good jump or not.

Has anyone been successful at stealing?

I do have trouble, but I like the way the stealing is. I always try to look at the pitchers motion to the plate and jump on the first bit of movement i see. I get picked off doing that but i steal bases, plus you don't need a huge lead.

This is what I do, I use the bumper to get a lead, then hold left trigger down and keep it held and when the comp starts his delivery I let go, it can be tricky and some pitchers are easier to run on then others.

It is very difficult to steal. The only success i have so far is against Gallardo and Lackey ( They have a pause in their delivery that makes so easy that I have been able to steal second with Pat Burrell ).

Nope. It's one of the big complaints. Human players are getting thrown out on curves and changeups with 99 speed players with 3 step leads and the AI is getting to second with 80 steal ratings on a fastball with no lead. (I still have no idea how to pitch out on classic)

Its all about timing and getting a good jump on the pitcher which makes it very realistic, but very difficult too. Right now I am only stealing successfully on curves and changes ups

it doesnt help that the catcher always throws perfect strikes.. and you can't control your slide

What's interesting is...Casey Blake from the Dodgers just stole 2nd base on me on a fastball pitch from John Lannan. His speed is 68. Umm..lol huh?

it's almost very realistic.. what makes it unrealistic is the fact that if you get a perfect jump, a lot of times (almost everytime) the CPU will automatically notice it, step off the mound and catch you in a pickle

I have had several 2K baseball games going back to 2K1, and I don't recall ever really liking how the steals work. They were always too easy or too hard (but I can't remember which one was which?..LOL).

No tips, or amount of saying realistic will make it work. It's just a broken part of the game.

I can't even steal occasionally, even with Jose Reyes' speed bumped up to 99. What I don't like about the new system is that you need to focus so much on the runner and his lead and getting a good jump that it's hard to concentrate on your batter. Players have a baserunning awareness rating, you should just be able to choose to steal like in past years and let the awareness determine how good of a jump he gets. This is the most disapointing part of the game to me bacause so much of my offense revolves around Reyes stealing bases

The average catcher only throws out 28% of the base runners. So both sides should be able to steal without getting thrown out too much.

If people are having trouble stealing with Reyes, then that is a good enough reason that the whole mechanic needs fixing.
