    Despite all this game's flaws...

I am still having a blast!

After screwing around, just playing 10 exhibition games or so, I felt I was finally ready to start the regular season with the Angels.

Opening day seemed like it would be a breeze. I scored two quick runs the first inning and Weaver sat down the first 6 batters, no problem (2 strikeouts). But in the 3rd inning, Weaver just completely loses any sort of control. Even after a word from Sciosa, Weaver manages to give up 5 runs in the third inning forcing me to yank him.

Now at this point, all the momentum is on Minnesota's side. I get some runners on base a few times, but I can't seem to get that big hit. Until the 8th... Down three runs, I manage to get two men on base with no outs during the bottom of the 8th. After a few base hits the game is tied! I have one out left and the bases are loaded. The count goes full --- pitcher throws a fastball--- smokes it right past me, inning is over.

Top of the 9th, two outs, the count is full, runners on 2nd and 3rd. Guess who is up in the batters box? Joe freakin Mauer. I consider walking him, since he's hitting 3 of 4 for the game, but I decide to go for it. 95 mph, high cheese, Joe swings, Joe pounds the ball!...right to my pitcher for the out, inning is over, bottom of the 9th.

So now I am thinking this is my chance, I have to win it now. Kendrick gets on first. Hunter flies out. Morales flies out. Matsui lines it right through the hole! Kendrick runs from 1st to third. Rivera is up to bat. Once again, the count goes full. I am waiting for the fastball down and away. Pitcher throws a curve, I make the adjustment, WHAM! Right into the left-field gap, Kendrick runs home, Angels win!

Despite all the glitches in this game, I still find myself having a great time playing this game. I think in about 12-13 games, I maybe hit 3 homeruns? I'm making good contact but just not good enough for the homer I guess. I haven't seen an error in 13 games and I think I've only succesfully stolen a base 3-4 times. But in spite of all that, the game is still really fun.

But I do hope 2k fixes some of these issues like they've mentioned. Sorry if this was a bit pointless, but that opening game was pretty memorable.

    Please use the Impressions Thread.
"It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace
