3 Questions about the batters eye.

Last night I tried turning on the batter eyes for the first time for 1 game. (Im talking about the little black circle you can move around with the L-stick while batting before a pitch to "guess" the location.)

But Im confused... Whats the benefit of it this year?

-Is there a way to lock it in place? (Or do I have to, hold the L-stick where I want it the whole time?)
-If I guess the location correctly what is the benefit? (Do I see the exact location? Do I get a better hit?)
-Is there a penalty for guessing wrong?

Honestly, untill yesterday I never had this turned on. But Im not clear on it exactly....

Re: 3 Questions about the batters eye.

I actually got a great answer to this question from a poster names 'RedLine' as the 2K forums. And he was exactly right.

      Here is what he said;

-Move it to the location you want to guess and then press "B" key on XBOX to lock in your guess, you should feel a quick vibrate to confirm.
-If you guess correct you will see the exact location with a ball icon and the pitch type color (Corresponding to the pitcher's available pitches when you press D-pad down on the XBOX. IE-a fastball is Green.)
-I don't know if there is a penalty for guessing wrong but it sure seems like when I guess right I tend to make more solid contact with more power.

      And he was right.

I saw one ball I think was blue, it looked like a slider. I hit down on the D-pad that shows which pitches and percentages the CPU pitcher has thrown, and sure enough Sliders were a blue bar on the graph. I later correctly guessed where a fastball was going to be, and this time the little ball was green. Sure enough on the graph fastballs were green.

I agree with him also, that I seem to get better contact when I have guessed correctly. On another occasion I guessed correctly where a fastball would be on a 3-2 count. A little green ball showed up just on the edge of the K-zone. I decided I would defensively swing at it to foul it off and hopefully get a better pitcher on the next one, but my defensive swing resulted in a little blooper for a base hit. I think that having guessed correctly helped me get the blooper.

So; I ALWAYS use this now. It really helps. It takes 2 seconds to lock it in place and then I dont have to worry about it. If I guess right; cool, it helps a little. If I dont guess right it doesnt seem to penalize you.

Its stuff like this that's not in the manual but should be.

Re: 3 Questions about the batters eye.

I had gotten away from the batter's eye this year, but may go back to it.

I really wish they would implement the batter's eye as it was handled in 2K8. Albert Pujols had a huge circle for guessing the pitch, while a role player would have a tiny one. So albert guessed right more often. It also altered the size of the circle based on the count. Even albert's got smaller when it was 0-2.

This is not to say that I don't like the new method of giving away pitches and general location. I think it has worked remarkably well. I had not been using it initially, as I liked not having the strike zone visible, both to make reading balls and strikes a little tougher, and aesthetically. for the last week or so I invested in using it, and have found that it really improved my experience.

But I have not tried using them in conjunction, and may try that out. What I found I was doing before was spamming my guesses into the boxes where the Inside Edge indicated the pitcher threw the most often. I think I need to rethink that strategy.

Anyone having luck using both the strike zone, with the tip=offs, and the batter's eye together?

Actually those little pink boxes where the pitcher tends to throw are gone this year for IE. (for me anyways)

I too would just spam those boxes with the batters eye.

But this year I usually put it outside the box low, so if its going to be way out of the zone I know.

If Im ahead in the count I put it inside the box, to give me better contact since Im assuming he will want to come in the zone and Im likely going to swing.

So yes I have success using them both in conjunction.

It takes like a half-a-second to lock the eye in place.

It looks a little cluttered after you lock the eye in place, and you release the thumbstick. It just sorta snaps back to the middle.

Luckily before the windup starts it dissapears, so its not distracting or anything.

(I also use the battere eye dissapearing as an indicator of when to steal, since it dissapears right as the pitcher starts his wind up.)

if your an online player, ya would be almost dumb not to use it. It helps alot in guessing if the pitch is a ball or a strike.

I use it all the time once i got the hang of it and its uses to help me guess pitches in being balls or strikes my batting average went up.

I am bumping this because its a small addition to the game that most people do not know about.

When I used it I kept putting the circle in the same exact place... lower outside, about 95% of the time.
