Best way to advance baserunners

Here's my situation: I frequently get runners on first thrown out at second when advancing on a base hit. This is because, at the crack of the bat, the runner heads BACK to first base before eventually turning around and heading to second. I press my left trigger ASAP after the contact, but I can't seem to avoid the backpedaling. This happens in other situations with runners on other bases as well.

Is there some secret to getting the runners heading in the right direction on contact? Is there a better method than using the left trigger?

I was just about to post an identical inquiry on these boards. Hit and run is useless in this game, as soon as you make contact, the runner you set in motion retreats? Will this be addressed?

LOL! I've even been picked off at 1B TWICE in 8 games I've played... I've stolen 1 base as well... But there is a very small part of me that feels you have really got to pick your spots when you run, much like in real-life...

Baserunning is glitchy. I really don't think the game handles immediate input on the baserunning controls well. You almost have to give the game an extra second to snap out of it and then hit the base you want to go to or the game screws it up. I don't even know why my guy runs to the wrong base sometimes but it usually happens when I give the command too quick.

I just hit the LT a couple of times to be sure they try to advance. Still have to admit that my runners will still do this once every five games.
