Anyone else think pitchers are too good on defense?

What I mean by this is, don't you guys think that pitchers stop line drives up the middle entirely too much? It annoys the heck out of me.

I think it's not as big a problem as it was made out to be. After reading impression prior to purchasing I thought I would see a vacuum on the mound, and that wasn't the case.

I've see plenty of grounders/seeing eye singles make their way up the middle. The come backer line drives seem to get caught a little too much, and it would be nice to see some of those ricochet off the actual pitcher and cause an injury.

in my last game (tampa bay (me) vs. toronto) i counted a total of ELEVEN outs made by both pitchers combined...

yeah, definitely a problem...not even close to real-life.

hmmmm, not what I'm seeing. I've played through 2 full seasons of My Player already at 2nd Base (I play almost every single game) and just about every ball hit up the middle is gobbled up by the pitcher. I'd say the pitcher snags about 90% of the balls hit up the middle, which is way too much.

yes this is an outrageous problem. As a SS for the red sox I see this up close, Beltre on my right playing super shallow gobbling up EVERYTHING hit his way, and then the pitcher on my left making him look like a minor leager the way he is able to grab hot shot after hot shot. every pitcher is better than any defensive wiz in the history of baseball. I've hit plenty of balls off the pitcher, they just catch them or grab them and quickly through me out...

You're talking about my player, and my experience is strictly limited to franchise gameplay. I play my player, but the only player I have is a starting pitcher so my ability to see what the CPU pitcher does when the ball is hit up the middle is limited to when my SP-MyPlayer can get on base...which isn't much.

Again - for franchise play, I stick to what I stated previously. Maybe these things are different among game modes?

I have to agree with this statement.

I think it is an issue, but not as BIG an issue as its made out to be.

After seeing this thread, I kept a pad and paper and wrote down the outcome of every liner right back at the pitcher over 3 franchise games. (both mine and CPU controlled)

I, or CPU batters, hit 6 liners right back at a pitcher. (defined as any laser right back at a pitcher that traveled over the mound)

2 times-Pitchers grabbed at the ball, but did not make the play.
2 times-Pitchers caught the ball with Jedi-goldglove-ninja like reaction
1 time-The pitcher actually dove OUT of the way.
1 time-The ball struck the pitcher, but he ran right over and threw me out at first. (No injury, no error, no delay, he just picked it up as if being struck by a liner right back him didnt hurt.)

So.... they definetly do not get EVERYTHING like some people make it out to be.

But essentially pitchers "made the play" 3 out of 6 times. 50% is still too high IMO.

Re: Anyone else think pitchers are too good on defense?

Every line drive I see at the pitcher is usually caught, but if not barely makes its way through. I would really like to see a pitcher maybe take one off the arm and have to leave the game or something, but thats asking for a lot I think.

Well, I haven't played Franchise, but it's a huge issue in My Player if you're a middle infielder.

Also, when I'm batting, it seems the CPU pitcher almost always snags balls hit up the middle as well.

Again, seems to happen about 90% of the time for me, and that's over 2 full seasons.

It's defitnetly a problem. It would have been great if the balls would bounce off the pitchers gloves etc. The pitchers catch them all and it happens too often as well.

How about the fact that too many balls are line drive right back to the pitcher ....nothing under their feet nothing over their head....Way to often

Funny, but I just played an exhibition game (tampa - me vs. minnesota) and NOT on ball back to the pitcher...LOL!!! compare that to my 11 combined just a game ago...

I see the same stuff. The pitchers are too good but it's not as bad as some make it out to be. Same can be said for the "rocket arm" issue which has been blown way out of proportion.

So true on the jedi reflexes sometimes.
