    stealing bases

Okay, I have a player that is quite capable of racking up some steals, but the stealing mechanism is bull it seems. if you hold down the trigger too soon, the pitcher runs off the mound and you're tagged, and if it's too late, you're meat at second, and then, with the rocket laser-like accuracy of the catchers, you're dead. Also, my player slows like he's running in sand when he gets to second. I'd like to start stealing bases more, but despite getting the pitcher's timing down, it seems like I'm always getting the pitcher running off the mound despite waiting for good running counts.

      Re: stealing bases

I'm getting steals quite consistently with a 80 speed rating. It depends on the pitcher. Some pitchers have very good deliveries out of the stretch...they're very quick to the plate. Others, like Joe Blanton, take forever to complete their wind up (I stole 4 bases in one game against him, two 2B and two 3B). Watch for pitchers that have either a long wind up or a little pause, ie Chris Young of the Padres.

I get my four step lead off, hold down the trigger and then release right when I see him pick up his foot. I've stolen 3rd standing up!! I've been picked off and caught stealing a lot, too. I really like how this part of the game works, especially the trigger release and timing the jump.

I do what gopadres does. I capitalize on pitchers that are slow from the stretch. Besides pitchers like that I don't bother with steals its too hard.

As long as you have a 4 step lead, and don't let go of the trigger button too late, then you should be good at stealing. It slows down to show you whether you're safe or not, you're not actually slowing down. Practice with the Lead Off/Stealing drills because once I got a hang of it I was .

Stealing is great in this game to me, so much better then the show. but yeah its all about the pitchers windup.... the guys with the pause are soo easy to steal off of, as long as you get a decent jump
