Re: Will MLB 2k shock the world?

As someone who played MLB the Show for at least most of the summer, then picked up MLB2K10 when I got an itch during the playoffs last year, I think this game is a lot better than advertised. I'm still playing 2K10.

I think the pitching is great and even with what the Show is doing, the added difficulty of throwing breaking pitches is a lot more realistic than just pushing back and forth on the stick with timing.

The swing stick has been refined to become almost natural as opposed to button swinging. Now the baserunning and fielding are sketchy - but very few baseball games have been able to capture those aspects. I had Mo Vaughn playing CF with no penalty back in MVP 2005.

When I hear about dynamic hot and cold streaks and pitcher fatigue being refined, as well as injuries requiring thought to manage, I am thinking this game might actually play better than it's rival on the field. And this is someone who has played the crap out of the Show for the past 4 years.

I'm exciting for the game this year. I think it will be solid. MLB2k10 just needed realism and polish. This years version is giving it that. Nothing ground breaking, just the stuff that should have been in the game last year.

Yea I agree with you here. I played like 4+ full seasons with 05 and if you put Mo in CF, not only would his lack of speed be evident, but his accuracy meter would be ALL red (obviously not a good thing). IMO, MVP's defensive scheme is still #1.

However, I think 2k11 may take the cake with their new system. If implemented correctly, I will likely pick this up. I miss the days (MVP 05) where I was forced to use defensive replacements in the latter innings. I am dying for gameplay vidoes showing their new animations, gameplay, commentary, etc.

I hope so...I've been waiting for a baseball to catch up to the quality of NBA2k for some time now. As an XBox guy, I unfortunately don't have the option of playing the always-excellent "The Show" series, so all my eggs are in the 2k basket. Gotta love the brave new world of sports gaming...

I'm not really looking for 2k to shock the world come march 8th, lol I'm just hoping this year's version is a step up from last year's and that the new fielding system works. I have a ps3, and bought my Ps3 specifically to play the show. I played the heck out of the show for the first two years 08 and 09, but last year 10 the game just felt stale, just like the previous versions. I tried 2k10 and didn't mind it all that badly, liked the immersive hitting and pitching mechanics more than the show, but I had to deal with poor fielding and not a polished game.

I know the show is going to be solid again this year, maybe even spectacular, but if 2k's fielding system is fixed and accurately reflects real life, and there aren't any game killing glitches or bugs, I might just purchase 2k, holding out hope that this is the year 2k arrives as a baseball force.

Re: Will MLB 2k shock the world?

All I'm hoping for is a decent baseball game that can be played. I love Baseball and have been a supporter of 2K and all their past iterations. It seems that in each one, there was always a "game killer" that plagued the series. The 2k community does an outstanding job here in fine tuning the sliders to produce the best possible game but when something cannot be fixed, it's just unplayable for me.

I know after last years game I pledged that "I was done with 2K", but I'm slowly being brought back in for one last time. Here's hoping that this year, it's finally here.

I have a weird NBA 2k11 vibe for this game...just feels like it could come from nowhere and be excellent.

Re: Will MLB 2k shock the world?

For some reason I just can't and won't give up on this franchise. I've always played it even when before exclusive license (MVP) and now (The Show). I'm just a huge baseball fan and I've always owned both games.

I was going to hold out until a price drop but after seeing all the latest information about the upcoming game, I couldnt help but pre-order.

I think it would prove to be a worthy contender this year while giving the gaming community another baseball game to seriously talk about.

Still wish MVP was around because I loved those games with all my heart, but this year's version looks pretty great. I was going to skip it this year, but I've officially pre-ordered from Best Buy (which claims it will be delivered between 3/1-3/8 and says the release date is 3/1 even though I know it's 3/8, so I'm not really sure when to expect it to get here, but I'm excited.

will be a good game but teh other game has such madden hype
it's unlikely that it will be ''the'' baseball game
still, i'm definitely lookin' forward to it but i've got high expectations
for 2k11, i will only be shocked if it tanks

I think its going to shock people who dont like the mlb 2k series. I think it will prove to be better than a lot of people make it out to be.

It really has man. I absolutely love the fielding this year. We may have another 2 DD left (I think Jeffy said a "franchise" and "my player"). This is going to be a great game IMO. This will be my first 2k game since 2k7 so I'm sure I will be blown away by their commentary as well
