Re: 162-game season
Serious question.....what fun do you (and others) get out of simming? Is it just to play multiple seasons and handle all of the off-season tasks and truly building and getting involved in franchise mode?
Maybe it's just because I'm anal, but I hate leaving stats to my season in the hands of the cpu. I have a hard time letting go. Maybe I'm the only one. The joy for me is actually playing each series and going through the marathon.
I'm in no way knocking anyone that likes to sim, I guess I'm just ignorant to that type of game experience that others have.
I would like to hear, simmers thoughts.
I hit .320 with a guy and put up other MVP caliber stats in my games and the cpu hits .265 with mediocre to average stats and he ends up with a .280 average 22 HR's and like 74 RBI's. That just kind of ruins it for me.
I think it was 2K9 (Giambi was back on the A's) and for whatever reason, I could just absolutely mash with him compared to everyone else. My team average was like .270, but he was hitting .360 or .370 and pacing for about 50+ HR's. I think I was probably 80 or 90 games into the season and he was hitting .360 with about 30 HR's..so I simmed just to see what happened and he finished with an avg. under .300 and only hit like 5 or 6 HR's the rest of the way.
It's situations like that, which make simming tough to accept.
I usually end up giving it a shot and then burning out a month or two into the season, but a lot of that had to do with poor AI logic in the past that would end up ruining games for me.
This is the absolute beauty of football games though...what takes one season in the MLB is 10 seasons in the NFL.
MVP 05 was the last time I was able to accomplish this. I played about 1 and 2/3 seasons. Before I got married and after I was through with college, my wife and I were living together, but had opposite work shifts. I would get off work and could knock out 5 or 6 games at a time. The games only took 35 or 45 minutes, so in 2-3 hours, you could knock out 2 series.Comment

To get back on topic, I will most likely not play a full season in MLB 2k11 if their mlb today feature is as addicting as most people say. If they keep track of your stats, than it will take up 90% of my playing time. With DNP ratings, new fielding, etc. this feature has massive potential. Plus, I work 6 to 4 so that leaves my evenings free now that my gf has entered the air forceLast edited by hitstreak13; 02-21-2011, 12:25 PM.Angels= 2025 World Series Champions!!Comment

Re: 162-game season
I can never finish a full 162 game season, so I'm in the process of considering some real dramatic work around to get through not only one, but more than one.
It all depends on how deep the Franchise mode is. If I don't find it deep enough, I'll be fine with MLB Today. I think it's a wonderful feature.
But, if Franchise mode can really grab me with a lot of attention to off-season and GM tasks, I may try some things. Still deciding on:
1. Play one game a series.
2. Play only weekend games.
3. Sim to July and play the second half of the season.
Yea, that third one seems pretty wild, but I simply don't have the time to play 162 games. I'm not sure I even have the time to play 81 or 40.
I wouldn't even think about it if MLB Today had a franchise option similar to NBA Live where it would use the stats you accumulated in the game's you played. Something like that would bring me closer to this idea of having the world running in the background of my actions.
Maybe call it Dynamic MLB Today."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. Re: 162-game season
I'm on board with you...once I sim a game, I feel like my impact to the final outcome of everything is diminished. Though, with that being said, the length of games within a baseball season makes it tough either way.
I hit .320 with a guy and put up other MVP caliber stats in my games and the cpu hits .265 with mediocre to average stats and he ends up with a .280 average 22 HR's and like 74 RBI's. That just kind of ruins it for me.

In user vs cpu games I always seem to see lower walk totals from both hitters and pitchers I control, and then I always seem to get more out of Utley and Howard. Simming helps balance out the realism IMO.
If I'm striking out too much as one hitter, simming will maybe get their walks in line some. If I'm unrealistically hot w/ one player, simming will help bring that back down to earth.Originally posted by Edmund BurkeAll that is needed for the triumph of evil, is for good men to do nothing.Comment

I gotta believe we will see it in MLB 2K12. It makes too much sense. It is the ultimate way to sim the games you don't play.Comment

Re: 162-game season
This is my dream mode. Let the game import stats from all the game you don't play, but use the stats from the game you do play to affect wins and losses and everything else. If they would allow you to go back and play earlier games, it would be even better.
I gotta believe we will see it in MLB 2K12. It makes too much sense. It is the ultimate way to sim the games you don't play.
I wanted to call it a dream mode as well. Hesitated, but I'm glad you did it anyway.
It's possible they wanted to get it right first and then expand on it. So hopefully in 2K12."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. Re: 162-game season
This is exactly one reason why I LIKE to SIM games; aside from just trying to get through more seasons.
In user vs cpu games I always seem to see lower walk totals from both hitters and pitchers I control, and then I always seem to get more out of Utley and Howard. Simming helps balance out the realism IMO.

The idea of playing every 6th game isn't mine, I got it from someone else on here a while ago.GamerTag: Blazzen85

Re: 162-game season
I have played a whole 162 game season with the Reds every year since I believe 1996.
Was '96 the first year for triple play baseball? If it was that was the year I started.
I will check when i get home tonight as I have the stats from every year written down at home.
Its actually kind of cool pulling the stats/standings out from year to year and looking at them. I played guys whole career's that played only for the Reds. My wife thinks I am a geek every time I get my huge binder out that has all the stats in it.ND Season Ticket Holder since '72.Comment
