I do something similar to playing every 6th game. Every month of the season, I play games that a particular starter pitches. For example, April, I play all games that my #1 starter pitches, May #2 starter and so on. This gets me to play between 25-30 games a year so I feel like I'm influencing the outcome of the season but not to the point where my "stick skills" create unrealistic scenarios. Eventually, you become so good at the game that short of boosting the A.I unnaturally in some way, you will win 90% of your games.

So if I go 20-5 in the games I play, yeah it helps my team, but it won't throw the standings all out of whack if my team's talent level isn't up to par with other teams in my division. Not to mention, making trades for prospects actually means something as I will eventually see them play for me. And making good front office moves also counts because in simmed games, the lineup you put together is the only influence you have in the outcome.

Time is an issue as well so for all those reasons I will never play 162 games, even if I DID have the time to do so. At best, if I did have the time I had in my early 20's, it would mean I get through 10 seasons and not just 5 or so

        Re: 162-game season

This has always my struggle with baseball games as well. In the early part of the baseball season, my console splits time with hockey and basketball games. And it isn't too long before the football games start bidding for time. So 162 games is just too much for me.

With baseball however, the essence of the sport really is the long haul. There are different ways to condense it, but each has it's own set of consequences. I am in the camp that doesn't like to sim games, so I prefer the short seasons. In 2K10, the 52 game season was pretty good. Basically the schedule was just the 1st game of each series. So the schedule ran from April to October, and the opponents were accurate. Of course there were some drawbacks.....Fatigue didn't really work, so you had to be on the "Honor System", especially with the middle relievers. And since each series was a single game, you never got that atmosphere/vibe that a 3 or 4 game series brings.

I've only made the complete 162 game season one time and that was with World Series Baseball on the Sega Genesis.

My goal is to play a full 162 game season..........every game! I cannot sim games as then it is not really my stats.

I don't believe in simming ANY games.

It's a long slog, but worth it.

I think I have decided the first season for the sense of accomplishment I will play all 162. Then in following seasons do the 1 every 6.

              Ahh pipe-dreams....

                Re: 162-game season

I actually started playing every 6th game a few years ago as part of a Dodgers 'chise I was working on.

However, I do it a little differently. I pitch with the #1 starter then sim the starts for the #2, 3, 4, 5 and the next start for the #1. After that I pitch with the #2 starter and sim the starts for the #3, 4, 5, 1 and the next start for the #2. I just keep moving down the line and repeat the process.

Like a previous poster said. It allows me to play 27 games per season and not have too heavy of an influence on the overall stats. My one caveat is that I will play any/all playoff games. This includes 1-game playoffs to determine a WC or division winner.

I do this as well, however, I failed to mention it because I've never made the playoffs in any baseball game since MVP 2005

I would love to play 162 games but just not enough time. Just to many good games out there. I might try that every 6th game thing and cheat in a couple big series every now and then.

                          Re: 162-game season

I'm coming up to a point in my life where I'll have very little to do throughout the day, so being able to save mid game plus my massive amounts of free time might equal me finally finishing one. I usually get around 60 or so games a year before I slowly play less and less until I stop playing completely. I'm thinking this year though is the year. I almost finished a full season in NBA 2k11 just during the time I rented it and this year's baseball game looks to be pretty good as well. I enjoyed 2k10 even with all the bad in it, so I should be able to easily enjoy it this year.

                            Cheaters never prosper.

Except for Pete Carroll. And John Calipari. And Tim Floyd. And Steve Fisher.

Last year I was going to try to play a full season, but I only played about 35-40 games, I think I got to about mid-May. I spent a lot of time with My Player last year though. Definitely not going to try again this year. My roommate and I will have a fantasy draft and play a 50ish game season (don't remember the actual number of games in the shortest season option).

This is exactly what I do. That way I work my way through the rotation without having to play every game. Once I get to the playoffs I do not sim anything.
