Has anyone else experienced REALLY cold teams back to back? I just swept the A's in 4 games, and beat the Mariners in the first two already. Thing is, I gave up a total of 3 runs in the first 5 games, before allowing 3 runs to Seattle the last one. Both teams had 5 or 6 hitters on cold streaks, they just couldn't put any hits together at all.

Re: MLB2K11 Franchise Progress
Season Over, Phillies Ousted in the NLCS
After a great 3-2 series win in the NLDS against the Dodgers, I just lost a heartbreaking series with the Brewers 4-2 in the NLDS.
After winning the opener I lost two very close games back to back. In game 4 I really needed to tie the series and get some momentum. I jump up 6-0 in the 1st and put it on coast. The Brewers chipped away, tied the game in the 8th and then put up 4 on Ryan Madson in the 9th, taking the game. In the elimination game Oswalt pitches lights-out allowing 2 through 7. Unfortunately Grienke murdered me and I only scored 2. I bring in Madson in the 9th to lock it down and take us to extras. He gives up a run and the series and season are over.
Howard had a monster post-season hitting .372 with 6 HR and 13 RBI. Ryan Madson was a total goat, going 1-2 with a 7.71 ERA and 2 blown saves to boot.
Despite the loss, it was a heck of a fun post-season. Rolled with MK's sliders and man, facing those playoff-caliber teams ain't easy.
The WS wound up being MIL vs. BOS, and the Brewers swept the Sox 4-0.
For the purpose of comparison, here are some of my season stats:
Team average: .270 (league high .280, low .233)
Team ERA: 3.55 (league high 4.37, low 3.28)
Halliday: 20-6, 2.25 ERA, 224 IP, 207 K, .227 BA
Lee: 9-8, 3.23 ERA, 170 IP, 170 K, .255 BA
Oswalt: 8-8, 3.47 ERA, 153 IP, 140 K, .242 BA
Hamels: 11-3, 2.90 ERA, 105 K, .239 BA
Hamels missed 2 months, and Oswalt missed a month, so we really didn't have a full-strength staff for more than the first few weeks of the season.
Rollins: .257, 9 HR, 48 RBI, 24 SB
Polanco: .294, 3 HR, 36 RBI, 5 SB
Howard: .315, 33 HR, 113 RBI, 2 SB
Utley: .286, 18 HR, 81 RBI, 16 SB
Victorino: .275, 12 HR, 58 RBI, 24 SB
Ibañez: .265, 8 HR, 46 RBI, 1 SB
Francisco: .313, 19 HR, 70 RBI, 12 SB
Ruiz: .241, 2 HR, 31 RBI, 4 SB
Rollins stood out for missing a lot of time--he only played 120 games. We got a surprise season from Brian Schneider, who played 71 games and hit .277 with 11 HR and 49 RBI. Rookie Dominic Brown showed some flashes of power, and finished with a .244, 12 HR, 48 RBI and 7 SB in 110 games.
Here are the league leaders:

Re: MLB2K11 Franchise Progress
Mike Napoli is a BEAST. Just got back from the DL, and in the first two games he hit 3 home runs. That puts him at 12 on the year in only 15 games.
At this point it almost feels cheap for me to use him.
Also, the Mariners keep offering me Ichiro straight up for Brandon Webb. Obviously that would be ripping them off, but I might try to put together a fair package later on if I still have lead off troubles.Last edited by cubsfan203; 07-13-2011, 03:17 PM.Fan of....

Re: MLB2K11 Franchise Progress
Man, Napoli is murdering it!
I'm finished with the off-season stuff and am into season two.
I had to hold myself back in free agency because of the cap space issue. I wound up passing on Sizemore just because I didn't think it'd be realistic. Instead, I picked up Burrell to play LF (Ibañez retired) and grabbed Kyle Davies to toss in AAA so that I have a starter with MLB experience to call up when injuries strike.
I didn't realize till after progression just how old the Phillies are, lol. They're pretty much a win year one or year two team, 'cause after that the wheels are coming off.
I got offered a deal for Polanco in pre-season for a young 4 star reliever with unbelievable velocity, and given Polanco's age, I took it. Now I'm starting FA pickup Omar Vizquel at 3rd though. We'll see how that goes.Comment

Re: MLB2K11 Franchise Progress
So far in my Dodgers series Freddie Freeman is tearing it up like he did in real life. Also, since Brian McCann has been out my catchers spot ahs been inconsistent. David Ross can't hit very well as the primary starter and he really can't call a good game. Aaron Phillips who I called up can call a good game, but hits worse than Ross.
Thankfully McCann only has around 4 days left until I can get him some playing time again and eventually(hopefully very quickly) have him become the starter again.
I just lost Alex Gonzalez 1-2 weeks with a wrist injury. He it a shot off the pitcher's ankle that went towards the shortstop, but the shortstop wasn't there. The third baseman charger it and threw it even though Alex was already there, the ball went flying over the first baseman's head and Alex slid into second safely, but injured. So Julio Lugo came in.
What's funny is with Lugo on second David Ross came up to the plate and the stat banner said, "No RBI's in two weeks." I laughed at how bad that was and was thinking I couldn't wait for McCann to come back. Then I sat there and saw the first pitch coming in and I had been taking the first pitch all game like usual, but I saw that this one one was coming middle in and belt level, so I swung and Ross ended up hitting it down the left field line and got an RBI.
Then later on in the game, tied 1-1, Nate McClouth hits a shot in the right center field fence that hits the wall, but doesn't really bounce, so the outfielders have to run it down instead of catching it off the bounce which then allows McClouth to get a triple. It was still very close though, pretty much bang bang.
After the triple Ross comes back up and once again, first pitch is pretty much the same location and Ross swings and drives it down the left field line for an RBI single yet again. So he goes from no RBI's in two weeks to two RBI's in two pitches.
One thing I have noticed is that the CPU early in games usually throws the first pitch out of the zone and gets behind in counts 2-0 and sometimes 3-0, but then after a couple of innings it realizes I wait until I see a strike thrown or see my pitch, so they start throwing first pitch strikes. Then when I start chasing those they start going out of the zone again to start off at bats. It's a nice touch and keeps me on my toes every at bat.
Really the only player that the CPU always throws the same to is Chipper Jones. I usually always get ahead at least 2-0 before I see anything close to being a strike. The CPU really respects him even if he is near his end.
And pretty much turned that into a post about CPU pitching and not franchise. I apologize.“No one is more hated than he who speaks the truth.”

Re: MLB2K11 Franchise Progress
First post in this section as finally just purchased the game today. Was impressed with 2k's production of NBA so thought I'd try out the MLB version. Had a few goes and fine tuned my skills and really enjoying it now.
I'm looking to start an franchise and was hoping to get some advice on which to choose. Haven't really got a favorite team as such, so was wondering which team is fun to play with and build. I was thinking maybe Pirates, Indians or Dbacks. Anyone got suggestions?
Also, can anyone suggest a roster and slider set please?Comment

Re: MLB2K11 Franchise Progress
I'm thinking of maybe going with the Yankees (don't hate) and maybe preparing them for life without Jeter etc. The White Sox, D-backs and Pirates are others im considering.
If I went with the Yanks, any trade advice u could offer mate? I downloaded a different set of sliders as I'm not playing of legendary. I was going to implement harsh's but does the difficulty matter?Comment

Re: MLB2K11 Franchise Progress
It's a hard decision for me as I'm a complete newbie to the MLB. I catch a few games on TV here Down Under in Aus. But my knowledge of players, positions etc is terrible.

Yeah, I think I'd rather challenge myself. Either the Pirates or Dbacks. Might look back through this thread and see if I can find what others have done to either team as I wouldn't know where to start.Comment

If you want a hard challenge, try using the Astros. The Pirates are better ranked in Mkharsh's roster because they have done good.Cincinnati Reds University of Kentucky Cincinnati Bengals
