Re: MLB 2K11 Demo Available Now, Post Your Impressions Here (PS3/360)
Played a couple of games last night after the 2 dudes in my avatar basically got pimped slapped by Orlando.
Both games were as the Giants. I really never played MVP 2005, or the MVP Series, but I have watched plenty of videos as many regard that as a great baseball game. To tell you the truth it really looks like VC has looked to that game to move this series forward.
The similarities are very evident.
I'm a simple kinda person. What I looked for in the DEMO was did this DEMO play better than last years DEMO. For me YES.
Then I looked to see if it looked Graphically better than last year. For me YES.
Finally did they improve or fix some of the things that were lacking in last years game. For me YES again
I can't wait to get my hands on this title maybe this weekend (though I have a busy family weekend) to get some time with the FULL Version which by our very own Chase, seems to be tighter than the DEMOComment

Re: MLB 2K11 Demo Available Now, Post Your Impressions Here (PS3/360)
MAn, there's still quite a few "what the crap..." (and I don't mean that in the good way) animations. I've had several that don't match the situation-a casual lob when a runner is heading for home and my 2B rearing back to gun down a runner at 1B...lol...worse still, ti was after fielding a ball 5-10 feet from 1B. Lots of little animation stuff like this still going on. As I said before, there is still a lot of the old animation issues cropping up in-between the improvements...it's weird. I like that more of the RTP stuff is in, but it's like they just slapped 2K9's RTP in and didn't bother smoothing it out.
Also had a couple framerate hitches on hits other than pop-ups (anything in the air seems subject to it possibly happening-fly balls, pop-ups, soft liners, etc). Not horrible or frequent though.
I've received a few emails from friends who tried the demo on PS3 and were upset about "washed out" colors and graphical issues, etc. I'm seeing some of those same complaints here. Is it really that bad?
I can honestly say that on the 360 at least, the colors are as sharp as I've ever seen. In fact, while in the overall scheme of things the graphics don't blow me away or anything, IMO 2K11 is the best looking 2K baseball game since 2K7 by a long ways...and while the models aren't as good, the stadiums, colors and lighting are the best in the series.
Also have finally seen some errors and miscues. Pretty good variety there, it seems and so far everything has happened in the right situation and made sense. Definitely nice to see the way the ball feels more "in play" this year and like how you have to account for bad hops, hard liners, etc.
So far, so good overallComment

Re: MLB 2K11 Demo Available Now, Post Your Impressions Here (PS3/360)
Love playin' the demo...
If you know me, I'm all about the "presentation" elements of a video game in order to make the game the MOST true-to-life as possible.
Pros
-STATISTICS (galore....beats the competition by a LANDSLIDE)
***This element ALONE warrants a purchase...plethora of stats during an at-bat, etc....unbelievable!!
-camera angles
-hit diversity
-stadium sound (chants/rants)
-fielding (smoother throws, etc)
Cons
-player models (some player model faces are muddled)
-stadium graphics (took a minor hit IMO)
-bat *sound* (still sounds like a 2x4 everytime I get a hit)
-baserunning (players rounding bases is NOT smooth at all)
*This coming from a 'Show' player-
All in all, MLB 2K11's DEMO is a great game...yes, IMO, it's a step-down graphically, but the smooth gameplay, variety of hits, PLETHORA of statistical overlays, and improved fielding shows that 2K FINALLY has a build they can use to improve on year after year....no longer should they have to reinvent or rebuild...they've hit the nail on the head this year with a great demo.Last edited by Tommyklaid; 03-02-2011, 10:01 AM.Currently playing on PS5 & XBOX SERIES X:

Re: MLB 2K11 Demo Available Now, Post Your Impressions Here (PS3/360)
WTF, I just had a play where I hit a long fly ball to dead center. The cpu outfielder caught the ball, (it was announced as an out.) and it was recorded as a HR instead. The camera then suddenly zoomed in on the pitchers face, and then to the next batter. No HR trot or celebration.
This is a major bug, and needs to be patched. Unacceptable.Last edited by Peter_OS; 03-02-2011, 10:02 AM.Comment

-Not a big fan of the new batting camera after you hit the ball. I have no idea where fly balls are going. It would be better if the camera panned up and followed the ball.
-Outfielders feel sluggish. I'd like to see more fluiditity to their movement.Currently Playing:

Re: MLB 2K11 Demo Available Now, Post Your Impressions Here (PS3/360)
Got in a couple of games last night.
As always, the pitching is incredibly fun. LOVE gesture pitching.
Yeah, I saw some herky-jerky movements from time to time. It could be smoother.
But overall, I really liked what I saw/played. Hit variety seems to be great and the new fielding mechanics are great. I love how I can tell the difference between one fielder from the next.
Overall, I really enjoyed it and can't wait to pick it up next week.Comment

Re: MLB 2K11 Demo Available Now, Post Your Impressions Here (PS3/360)
I was a huge fan of MLB 2K10 last year and I thought they finally made a fun game. I had high hopes for this year's edition but boy am I disappointed now after playing 5 games with the demo.
- I just did a quick scan of the posts here and I am surprised nobody (I think?) mentioned this. In the demo the CPU lays off 90% of balls and swings at 90% of the strikes. What the heck is going on with the ultra aggressive AI? This wasn't a problem at all in the final version last year but it is now back and as bad as ever. I pray to the baseball video game gods that the final version won't be like this.
- The infield defense control is pretty much still automatic. I don't even have to move my stick and my infielders will field the balls with god-like reflexes. This is BAD.
- Way too many hard hit balls off the bat, especially on infield grounders. Everything is hit 200MPH and is a laser shot directly at someone, but back to my previous point, the automatic infielders will get to them with superhuman speed.
- The new fielding camera after you hit the ball is horrible. It's absolutely IMPOSSIBLE to tell if a flyball will be an out or a gapper or blooper because the ball completely disappears from the user's view and there are no landing marks, depth indicator, or anything else to help you judge how the ball is traveling and where it might end up.
Those are the main gameplay issues I have right now. Obviously there are the framerate problems everyone mentioned on foul or pop-ups and I also saw 1 glitch when Andrian Beltre hit a ball off the right field wall at AT&T Park, it bounced into Cody Ross's glove, and it was called a homerun. But these are techincal glitches that can be fixed. I am more concerned with the underlying gameplay issues and I am majorly disappointed.Pro Yakyu Spirits Translation Site

I posted that on the previous page and nobody has said a word about it and I put a screen shot of the box score to prove itLast edited by Giants4Natic; 03-02-2011, 10:18 AM.Comment

Re: MLB 2K11 Demo Available Now, Post Your Impressions Here (PS3/360)
and it was said numerous times before you posted that screenshot too... not sure what you're looking for people to say. Yeah its a bug (and a bad one if its in the final build), its frustrating, but not much any of us can do about itComment

nothing is more frustrating than having your guy stand there like a statue as you delay a second to figure out which guy you're controlling, only to let a ball that should have been an out end up a hit.Comment
