    Animations/Fundamentals

This is a combination thread for baseball fundamentals and baseball related animations you would like to see incorporated into 2K's MLB series. Feel free to weigh in.

It's a bit early given 2K11 hasn't released quite yet. However I think it'll be interesting to see what types of things, we, the community can come up with?

I know me personally, I'd like to see an A.I. responsive in recognizing situational animations. For example, having a fielder change the aggressiveness in his stride toward the ball knowing it's foul and not fair. I say this because I'll often see an outfielder in a full out sprint to retrieve a foul ball after it ricochets off of the wall back into the field of play.

It would be cool to see the fielder sprinting toward the line then easing up as he recognizes it's been ruled a foul ball. Same with home runs. 2K has got it right with fielders not moving on the no doubt of bouter. As well as for the ball that just barely clears the fence for the most part, but what if you saw a fielder sprinting back only to realize a ball has more carry than he thought, at which point he begins to decelerate. Letting everyone in the park know it's gonna land in the stands.

I have more ideas I'll post later. What are some of yours?

    Re: Animations/Fundamentals

Here's 3 things I've always wished for in MLB 2k:

    1. Catcher coming out to the mound. You see this all the time in baseball. For instance, you could call the catcher out, and then receive a small increase in the accuracy/speed of one pitch.

    2. Pitcher stepping off the rubber to re-set. This should be an option when pitching. He steps off, grabs the rosin bag, steps back on--would be cool. They could also add a risk factor: i.e, stepping off either increases a hitter's focus, or depletes it--but you don't know which.

    3. In the same vein: hitter stepping out of the box. You should be allowed to break the pitcher's rhythm from time to time. Same risk factor could apply.

This might be stretching it, but I would like an option to go into first person view during big moments to look around the field. This would be awesome in big spots to build drama. For instance, 2 out in the 9th, runners on, you're the pitcher in a 1 run game.

You can then freeze the game--though all the action is still moving--and look at the dugout, the stands, whatever. You could maybe get 3 "composure" moments throughout the game to take a minute to just breathe in the atmosphere of the game. That would be awesome.

I like these a lot. I think stepping off the mound/catcher/manager visits should all play into the composure factor already in place.

A step off would account for a small boost, (affective maybe 1-2 at the most per inning to eliminate all abuse/cheesing)

Catcher to the mound accounting for a slightly higher boost (again limited to 1-2x/inning)

with a visit from manager/pitting coach serving as the biggest boost (maybe half a meter. the other 2 a 1/3 or 1/4 ea.) of course a manger visit can only happen once per inning.

Similar to the slow-mo cam on steal attempts when you throw to the bag, they can use a cut-scene like animation that takes the hitter/pitcher around the stadium in 1st person view during big moments. That would be hot and it would as you said help to heighten the moment.

The hitter stepping out of the box should work just as said, maybe even adding a nervous/composure meter to the batter in certain situations. Good ideas.
