Too Many Dropped Fly Balls Compared to Booted Grounders

The gathering error slider will influence how many "gather" errors players commit. But what I have found so far is that it seems to affect every fielding play almost the same. An outfielder seems to have the same chance to drop a fly ball as an infielder has to boot a grounder. This is very unbalanced as a dropped fly ball is much more rare than a mishandled ground ball.

Based on your experience so far are you seeing too many dropped line drives and fly balls when comparing them to booted grounders? I've actually seen more dropped fly balls than booted balls in 10+ games of playing. I think this is something that is going to have to be patched. If you raise the gathering error slider to something like 60 or so you will see more errors and I think you will find way too many dropped fly balls.

Rudy, this is weird because I'm not seeing any drops on fly balls. I believe I have those sliders @60 also

I do think there is a lack of errors altogether in the retail version compared to the demo. This is something that will reveal itself more over time. I would just like people to track how many booted balls you see and how many dropped line drives and fly balls you see. You aren't going to see a lot but I think those two numbers will end up being very close to one another over time - too close imo.

I've had 2 dropped fly balls in 6 games of MLB Today. 1 mishandled grounder.

Re: Too Many Dropped Fly Balls Compared to Booted Grounders

Hmm...so far I've had one dropped fly ball. I've seen a fair share of "hot-shot" liners that have been bobbled or dropped, a few throwing errors and a coupled misplayed grounders.

So thus far, I'd say it looks pretty balanced for me, with maybe a bit too many of those liners being mishandled vs grounders being bobbled. It's too early for me to say for sure though. I'll have to double check if I did anything to the error sliders manually or just let them raise with the default levels (I've been spending more time trying to balance the pitching and hitting).

I use joe's sliders as well and I have seen 3 Dropped fly balls in around 7-12 full games played.
However none of them were just plain and routine fly balls. Jason Bay dropped a hangin line drive that found its way down the line normal depth in the outfield. He was on full sprint.
I've seen Carlos Quentin drop a shoelace short fly & Juan Rivera drop a fly back running back towards the wall. All of the players mentioned have a 60 catch and range rating or lower

haven't seen one dropped fly. In fact, I just watched Carlos Lee make an incredible diving catch in the warning track...which is totally unrealistic. Ive sen Brandon Phillips boot more plays than the CPU. Anyone who knows B Phillips, knows how ridiculous that is.

I haven't seen any dropped fly balls. Only infield errors by me... Especially with Howie Kendrick. I don't recall seeing the A.I make any errors though.. But, that's probably cause I'm always striking out.

I have both User and CPU error sliders at 70.
