Building a team up from the Farm

How do you guys usually go about this? I'm with the Reds and have a terrible farm system right now haha. I'm trying to revamp it with some young talent that can grow into big leaguers, trying to find potential and youth. So far i've not been diong to good at that. One good thing about the reds is that they have a young rotation I'm still trying to trade away my old guys with big contracts for some youth in my lineup tho..

So any tips on how i can build up my farm system?

Get some extra draft picks by letting some Type A or B free agents go. You'll get some compensation picks.

That's what I did with the A's, I let DeJesus, Matsui and McCarthy go to get 3 extra picks in the draft.

The Reds actually have a pretty good farm system. At least in real life. Trading in this game is way too easy though. I was able to get Soria, Hamel, Andrus, and Carlos Santana, by trading away Bailey, Masset, Bray, Gomes, Ramon Hernadez, Renteria, Fred Lewis, Cordero and some AAA prospects. My Reds are now a 91 in pitching and a 93-94 in batting. You can ether go the pre Jocketty route and wait for your AAA guys to become good, or you can trade them away for slightly older players that will come in and be effective immediately.

Im actually going to restart my franchise, making myself a pitcher, instead of a LF and not going after Hamel. Maybe put Lewis in LF and have super speed with Stubbs, Andrus, Lewis and Phillips.

I've been workin on my rotation some now.. None of my starts are over 26 now all of my bullpen is young other than the closer too.. I'll probably try and draft some young pitchers because i traded for a potential 5* 1b off the nats he's sittin in triple A right now and hittin about 350.. he's only at a 2 star but i got him cheap..

ANyone know how the draft is in franchise mode?

I picked up a LF in the draft that has 4 star potential and came in rated 77. i also got a 4 star potential starter that I paired with a reliever and got Hamel.

Yes, there is. I picked 28 I believe as the Reds and my first and second rounder both came out in the seventies. That's high enough to come in and make a difference off the bench.
