    4. Mets: 139.68
    5. White Sox: 136.22M

Team Budget and Team payrolls are, I believe, different in this game when you start a Franchise.

I believe all of the budgets are right around where they should be. Maybe slight tweaks, but not bad at all. The inherent problem though is player salaries are well below what they should be, nearly every player I've double checked is wrong, and wrong by $5-10 million.

They aren't very bad, but my team the Phillies should have a higher Team budget, and that could hurt resigning players.

I wouldn't worry about resigning players. Most sign for well below their market value. I ran a few test seasons and I never once had a budget constraint when it came to signing players I wanted.

So is free agency still broken? Where all the players re-sign and the best player in FA is rated high 70's every year?

                Pretty much.

It's maybe not as bad as last year but the problems still remain.

Players resign for way too little and team budgets vs. team payrolls still has a very large gap, thus more times then not a team is going to resign whatever players they want. Pujols signed with the Cardinals for around 6 years/$70 million, Prince Fielder 6 years/$60 million.

So yeah... unfortunately this is still a lingering problem.

I really hope this is something that can be patched.

                    Re: Question on Team Budgets

Also remember that all the salaries are 20% lower than real life, so all the budgets and new contracts are 20% lower as well. I think they still are on the low side even with that adjustment, but 12 million a year isn't as bad as 10 million a year for Fielder.

I'm using the Pirates in a franchise, until Spring Training is over, and viewing Budgets from the Team Home Pages their Budget was the 3rd lowest instead of the lowest - as it lists here.

Plus the Pirates Budget in 2K was about $50MM.

Per ESPN, their payroll is not higher than $34MM currently; albeit w/ only 16 players on the roster.

Shouldn't budgets and actual payroll be different?

Actual payroll is what you currently are paying in the form of salaries.

A teams budget is the amount they are willing to spend. To assume they are equal means that every team has spent every penny of available funds, which can't be the case.

Teams will have free money for several reasons....they got players cheaper than they anticipated, they are saving money for possiblle late season playoff-run aquisitions, they are rebuilding and stockpiing money away, etc.

For a team to have a payroll of $35M and a budget of $45M makes sense as it allows that team to do some things later in the year.

Yea...I see what you're saying. I'll have to look at the Team Budget screen within franchise, and see how it's reporting things.

Yes, budgets change every year. I think it's dependent on team success but I could be wrong there.
