I was playing a scoreless pitching duel into the 5th inning. Then I went up 3 runs, 4 hits as the Marlins against the Mets, who had no runs on 1 hit. The next half inning, they conveniently come back to get 3 runs on 3 hits. How nice! 3-4-0, 3-4-0. Hanley Ramirez puts me ahead the next inning with a home run, but immediately afterward the Mets make it 4-5-0, 4-5-0. I quit at that point. Tight games are only fun when they're earned by both sides, and this has happened in more than one game.

I'm flattered that the AI wants to be just like me, but it's frustrating earning the lead only to have it taken away by a cheating CPU. Why should the player be penalized for being better than the other team? That's the point of sports, if I recall correctly.
all teams pretty much play the same when they are playing from behind heading to the later innings.
doesnt matter what level you play on. just mix up your pitches know the situation and make the adjustments; like bringing in a lefty when the lineup is majority lefty. things of that sort.

piching outside the strike zone cause most teams batters get aggressive when they are losing big. or are facing a picher who is ahving a dominate game.

jamming batters, brushing batters back, is another trick to use on agrresive teams. walking batters.
there are lots of tricks. also believe it or not slowing down the pace of your pitches. controlling the flow of the game.

this game is lovely. there are lots of little things that I notice in this game.

    its a thing of beauty.

A lot of good points there. I'll add: knowing the CPU is -- cough-cough -- "fighting to come back" in the later innings, it makes it even more critical that people take into account and make use of CPU hitters' IE tendencies, especially later on in the game. The IE stats seem to really mean something this year. So if IE says that a particular hitter will swing at 40% of sliders thrown outside, then be aware of that and throw outside sliders to that hitter. Get him out by making him chase pitches he's weak on.

I lowered difficulty to Pro with the exception of faster pitch speed and meter speed. I wish I would've taken a screen sooner when it was 4-10-0/4-10-0. This is really getting frustrating.

I had an unusually big first inning with the Royals, so I thought no way is Detroit coming back any time soon. Boy was I wrong. They worked their AI voodoo and had the game neatly tied up by the bottom of the same inning. What I find funny is the AI goes on an offensive tear just to catch up, then deflates and ends the inning as soon as the numbers are even.

2K: if you're going to program the AI to cheat, at least make it a bit more subtle. Try distributing the runs over several innings instead of all at once.

What was the final score? Also there were 10 days between your last post, how many games did you play during that time and how were the results?

I haven't posted because I haven't had time to sit down and play a real game. I also quit the game posted above because of the score-matching.

However, I think I know why the AI was matching me: both user and AI sliders were set to the same values. I lowered CPU contact and power to 40/85 and kept mine at 50/85, and had a great game playing as the O's against Texas. They beat me, but realistically. They took advantage of my pitching mistakes instead of hitting everything inside the zone or out.

I'd like to try these sliders for more games and see if the nice results continue.

I've had more comeback wins then the CPU has. It's all about being unpredictable with your pitcher and using your best pitch. If your change-up is terrible, only throw it far out of the zone.

Also, if your going to throw a pitch low, make sure it is really low. Pitches just out of the zone low are the ones I see constantly driven to the wall.

Re: Lot of come from behind wins: catchup?

I had another good game, holding off Colorado for 7 innings and getting the one-run victory despite them getting plenty of guys on base. Pelfrey went 8 innings with 3 BB and 9 K. It really felt rewarding seeing good pitches go for outs and bad pitches get slammed, without the AI fantastically scoring runs and then abruptly stopping.

The only thing I've drastically changed is my slider set, so I assume the AI catching up is a volatile brew of sliders and team selection. I'm really enjoying this game now. Thank you who listened to my gripes throughout this thread.
