Last version to have zone hitting and power swing button?

Anyone recall? I'm a Classic swing guy and I'm missing both right now. The one button swinging in 2K11 isn't doing it for me. Also, 2K baseball used to have a real and actual zone hitting component that was terrific from a ball physics and hit variety POV. Don't know why they took that out, but does anyone remember the last version to have that?

By zone, are you referring to their cursor hitting system (which they called zone)? If so, it was last in there for 2K9. It was my favorite system as well. The hit variety was based on bat to ball physics. It was up to you to get under a pitch to lift it to the outfield...not just pressing up on the L stick.

However, I don't think there was a power swing that year (can't really remember).

That year there were basically 4 hitting sytems

    Timing - Swing Stick
    Timing - Button
    Cursor/Zone - Swing Stick
    Cursor/Zone - Button

Thanks Trev. I downloaded the 2K9 demo this morning and tried it out after posting all that. The demo didn't allow cursor hitting, so I couldn't try it out. And no power button swing either from what I read in an article I found. Regardless, it would be tough going back to an earlier version. This year's game looks, and for the most part plays, so much better. I'm just a bit miffed at the lack of some kind of skill hitting system. Timing-only hitting is so terribly arcade.

The last version to offer true zone hitting (like Interplay, High Heat, Inside Pitch) in this game was the True Aim hitting system which I believe was removed after 2K5.

I remember that -- top-notch zone hitting system, best ever in a baseball game IMO. I knew though that one of the later games had a zone-type system but couldn't remember if it was 2K8 or 2K9. Or 2K10 -- I didn't play that game at all so I didn't know what the hitting was like. But I found some articles online and pieced all the info together today after a bit of searching.

Interestingly, one of the 2K developers for 2K9 said they removed Step Influence (a fantastic feature) after 2K8 because "pickup and play gamers found it too hard to figure out." Pretty much my same point with this switch from zone hitting to timing-only. They're simplifying the game each year to make it easier and easier.
