We Have Contact, But Do We Have A Home Run?

    Hey guys,

Is it at alll possible to hit Home Runs exclusively using the Contact swing?
I like to use the Power cut on 2-0 and 3-1 counts but I dont feel like knowing when a HR might come, I like the unknown of catching a nice meaty pitch and sending it out no matter what swing I use.

    thanks for any thoughts.

I have never even came close and I play on BigFnJoes sliders. always a gapper line rope over the SS or 2b head or rips down the line. Never any deep blast.

I have hit a homerun using the contact swing, but that was probably due to the really really awful pitch by one of the Twins Relivers. It was straight up the middle fast ball, and I hit it just perfectly. But dont rely on it, because I think its like a 1% chance.

so i guess its feast or famine?
you can't hit dingers with the contact swing, but the power swing wont give you the usual dink singles?

I have hit a number of HR's using the analog contact swing, but its about timing, pitch placement and pitch count

PC version here using BigJoe's sliders.

Have hit several Contact-swing w/no Left-Stick influence homeruns. Some of note: Pirates' Alvarez, Snyder. Cubs' Ramirez, Colvin & Byrd.

It can be done, just other factors come into play (Timing, Pitcher's composure, Pitch in good zone for hitter, etc...) I'm selective with my swings and work the counts though. Only use Power-Swings in certain situations and with certain hitters.

will someone see a good variety of knubbers, liners, gappers and Hr's using the Classic batting of hitting X?

Indeed. I'm using Classic and see all kinds of variety, from homers to knubbers and everything in between. I have both the contact and power at 50, but you can adjust that accordingly to suit your needs.

I've hit a couple of homers using the Contact swing. Like another poster said, it's about timing, pitch location and your players' rating.

I've got Contact @ 35 and Power @ 75 for myself and the CPU, btw.

I have hit them using bigfnjoe's sliders, lowest power guy was Grady Sizemore, hit it oppo in KC. His power is 73.

Classic hitting produces nubbers and groundballs if and only if the player ratings are heavily edited. Generally speaking, there's just too many players with too much power. After lowering power ratings and contact ratings, and raising pitchers' groundball ratings, I'm finally seeing nubbers and many more groundballs. I'm waiting until tywiggins releases his v4 or v5 PC editor with global editing capability, because it just may be possible to improve that aspect of the gameplay significantly with just a few global edits.

I'm seeing plenty of grounballs with Classic and I'm using the default roster. What are your contact and power sliders set at?

I'm seeing all kinds of results with classic hitting. Grounders, line drives, home runs, slicers. In fact saw one slicer today at Chase Field, where it hooked into the left field corner (thought it was gone) but richocheted off both walls in the corner and turned around my left fielder.

Classic hitting takes away the guesswork of contact or power swing.

Agreed man. Classic is the way to go, IMO.

this is irrelevant to the thread but do you guys see more foul balls with the stick or classic?
After watching games today I can't help but notice foul balls are crucial in battles and driving up pitch count.

Main reason why Verlander was over 100 pitches in the 5th.
