Pujols would be nice to have, but if I had Prince, I'd probably just try to lock him up. Who knows if Pujols would hit the market.

Re: Trade Discussion Thread
Not exactly a trade, but i'm in the World Series against Texas with my Brewers right now.
I just realized after this season i will need to resign Fielder, or find another 1st baseman.
Should i let him go and get into the battle for Pujols?
I'm thinking of keeping him. I love Fielder, and he's a solid lefty.
I don't think there's anyone i would trade (Except for maybe some picks and prospects for a solid SS. Boutencourt (spelling?) isn't bad, but jesus he and Weeks like to collect errors at the worst times...)
That's one thing I don't like about this year's franchise mode. Not enough free agents. I went in and edited the biggest contracts on every single team to the player's real contract (in the game, everyone's contract is 20% smaller). The thinking was that more money tied up in player contracts = less to spend on retaining FAs = more FAs. Hoping this works.
And lastly, you can't trade draft picks in the MLB :/WE ARE PENN STATE

Re: Trade Discussion Thread
Since players in the minors don't get hot and cold streaks, you think it's a good idea to raise or lower their ratings yourself? I ask this because if I have my top 2B prospect just tearing it up, should I up his ratings and give him a shot in the majors?Comment

Re: Trade Discussion Thread
Good points. Think i will just keep fielder. Now to track down a solid SS for a trade. Since i made myself a starter, i think i can afford to give up someone like Wolf and Counsel and keep Betancourt as my backup SS. Maybe throw a prospect in there. It's a shame you can't trade picks. I guess NHL11 spoiled me.Comment

Re: Trade Discussion Thread
I like taking terrible teams and making them into contenders in Franchise. I'd usually do this with my Reds, but they are good this year. Here are some players that are really easy to get
Elvin Andrus
Carlos Santana
Joakim Soria
Dustin Pedroia
Jaime Garcia
Billy Butler
Pedro Alvarez
Chris Ienneta
Jon Broxton
Adam Dumb (My Mariners DH)
Theres a bunch more that Ill post later.Comment

Re: Trade Discussion Thread
Omg Im having way too much fun!!!! I started a normal franchise with the Padres and added Justin Smoak and Chris Davis 1B TEX, and im 34 games in now. 21-13.
Justin Smoak is batting .468 with 12 HR's and is on a hot streak with 80 contact and 97 power.
Chris Davis is batting .342 with 17 HR;s and is on a hot streak with 76 contact 96 power.
Everyone else on my team is batting under .270 with less than 5 HR's and are on no streak or a cold streak. Idk why but these 2 are just ripping the ball.Comment

Re: Trade Discussion Thread
I'm having a blast in my A's franchise. I play 1 and sim between 4-6, and I'm currently sitting at 20-20, tied with the Angels for 2nd place and one game back from the Mariners.
My pitching is awesome, but my offense is abysmal. With the way things are shaping up, I think I can compete for the division crown with the roster as it is, but it is going to take a string of tiny miracles for the team to have the offensive output necessary to pull away in close games.
So I'm looking at trading some pitching for a bat, but I don't follow trades in real life much and am not sure what exactly is considered realistic. I want to keep Cahill and Gonzalez, but could imagine parting ways with Braden, McCarthy, Harden, and any one of my relievers. I don't want to trade any position players, but I could afford to move Crisp, Sweeney, or Powell. I know for sure I want to hold onto Suzuki, Kouzmanoff, De Jesus, and Carter.
Can you guys make some recommendations? I'd like a guy with 80 contact and power or higher. Doesn't have to be the biggest HR guy but has to be a legit RBI/slugging type.Comment

Re: Trade Discussion Thread
^ Typically I just consider the trade "realistic" if the CPU team accepts it.
I know there is some funky trade logic in a lot of these games, but there does come a point where I just have to say it ISN'T real life, it is a video game, and while I'd like it to be as close to realism as possible, at the same time, it's not going to be. I just try to accept it as an alternate world or whatever.
For example: The San Francisco Giants probably wouldn't explore a trade for Big Papi in real life. But in game, it's something that I am considering.
Now, I try not to exploit the CPU too badly, I.E. trading away future picks for top players knowing I'm only going to play a handful of seasons anyways (that's in other games of course, since MLB can't trade picks), but if the CPU accepts it, then I consider it realistic for video game purposes.
I feel like it starts breaking reality even more so once you start playing the "force trade" game, and start trying to decide what or what isn't an acceptable trade for other teams.Comment

Re: Trade Discussion Thread
Yeah, I agree that there's a moment when you just need to accept that you've entered an alternate universe. If you never do that, then you wind up obsessing about roster moves and management decisions that aren't "realistic" in your mind but that happen nevertheless.
I think there's a happy medium. I'm gonna search some trades this afternoon and post some possibilities just to see what folks think.Comment

Baseball franchises are a new beast for me though. I haven't played a baseball game since maybe 2K6, maybe 2K7, and I usually never last long in them because playing shortened seasons bothers me. Well after playing NBA 2K10 last year, I've gotten into the "play some games, sim the rest" philosophy so im trying that what MLB 2K11. So far im having a blast.
I haven't made any trades yet. I made 2 free agent signings, reliever Elmer Dessens, and 2B Cristian Guzman, both for depth. As I was thinking about Aubrey Huff for David Ortiz (dont think itd have been straight across, but still) Huff has started to come around on the bats, regained his #3 spot in the lineup, and temporarily silenced any talk of me upgrading the 1B spot.Comment

Re: Trade Discussion Thread
Does this sound like a fair trade to you guys?
NY Mets (Me) get: MR Fautino De Los Santos
Oakland Athletics get: 2B Brad Emaus
Oakland has no good 2B in MLB or any of their minor league teams and I need a young reliever.Buffalo Bills

Re: Trade Discussion Thread
You can rake with certain people who have low ratings. I have Chris Davis 1B Tex, and Justin Smoak 1B Sea, and they are both tearing it up for me although Davis has been in a huge slump recently.
Anyways heres a good idea,
I suggest you trade Andrew Baily who is a good young closer to a team who lacks a good closer.
Teams you can try to do this for that are all pretty realistic.
The ones I highlight in RED mean it's not realistic but it's a good trade, BLUE means it's realistic but not a good trade, and GREEN means it's both.
-Angels: Howie Kendrick LF
-Astros: Hunter Pence RF or Chris Johnson 3B
-Blue jays: Adam Lind 1B or Aaron Hill 2B
-Cardinals: Colby Rasmus CF
-D-Backs: Kelly Johnson 2B, Stephen Drew SS
-Orioles: Nick Markakis RF, Luke Scott LF, Mark Reynolds 3B
-Phillies: Shane Victorino CF
-Rays: Matt Joyce RF
-Reds: Jay Bruce RF, Drew Stubbs CF, Johnny Gomes LF, Scott Rolen 3B
-Tigers: Brennan Boesch LF
-White Sox: Carlos Quentin RF, Alex Rios CF, Alexi Ramirez SS
-Yankees: Nick Swisher RF, Curtis Granderson CF, Brett Gardner LFComment
